Two races to go...

Can JJ hold onto his lead?  Is Mark Martin destined to be the bridesmaid again? Who throws the monkey wrench into the 48's race this week?

Finally, the Chase is heating up...

It's not heating up...JJ's got this one in the bag unless David Reutimann sends Hornish towards the 48 early again this week (we can only hope right?)

Agreed.  73 is still dominant especially with phx coming up.  JJ won 3 of last 5 there with 5 top 5 and a 2.2 ave finish.  Last night was just a tickler for fans and media to talk about

JJ will win the Cup. Mark Martin has already talked himself out of the big trophy. When Mark talks about four or five drivers can still make it happen instead of talking about him winning that means he's bummed and down on himself. That's why 'The Old One' keeps coming up second in the points. I do think he got screwed out of one championship win by Nascar several years ago over a spring that did not matter one dang bit. That one stupid B slapping by Nascar took the wind right out of his sails for the championship run. Sad

If JJ and Chad had a 50 point lead going into last week's race and added 23 to it, no one would be asking these questions.  The DNF and reduction of the gap just creates an illusion that 73 points in 2 races isn't a big margin.

I think Hornish got the #77 team more TV time last week than he had all season, though.  I'm sure we'll see a few more replays before they take the green this Sunday.

History favors Johnson.  This is actually the second largest lead after race 34 since the Chase began (Johnson's lead was 106 at this point106 last year).  No other driver has led by more than 41 points at this juncture, including Johnson in '06 and '07-Johnson led by just 17 after 34 races in 2007.  The leader after Race 34 has won every Chase title to date.

It's certainly not over by a long shot-anything can happen in two races.  But Chase history favors the point leader.

It's still Jimmie's to lose. If it was only 30 points, I'd be a bit more optimistic.
