I heard that on Thursday they will be announcing who the next 5 to be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame will be..
After so much controversy, and speculation for the initial five... who will be the next 5 to go in.?

They're announcing the next 25 candidates on Thursday, then various entities will votes on those to narrow it to five.

My picks:
David Pearson
Richie Evans
Lee Petty
Bobby Allison
Cale Yarborough

I'm still working on mine.
I think Pearson for sure....
I'm kind of think Raymond Parks (one of people who help found NASCAR, first multi-car team owner, and owner that won first CUP championship...  Nice credentials)
Still thinking about my other 3.. I was thinking of several.  IMO if you put in Allison, you have to have DW.. those two are neck-n-neck.  IN fact, I'm not so sure I wouldn't put J Gordon ahead of both of them..
Yarborough is a good pick,.. - 3 consecutive CUP titles
Of course there are a lot of older drivers who could be included..  Fred Lorenzen and Fireball Roberts to name just two.

I don't think any active drivers should be considered.  If you look at the HOF's of the stick and ball sports, there's usually a waiting period between retirement and HOF eligibility

David Pearson is the only one I'd bet the rent on.

I like Amy's list if I were voting, but Richie Evans will probably be left out, since many people don't know much about the modified circuit.

I'd throw Glen Wood in there, perhaps.

There is a waiting period for NASCAR's HOF too: 3 years. Haven't seen it in writing, but it was discussed on Sirius Nascar Radio.

Precisely why there should not be a fan vote for the HOF.

Baseball does it right-national writers' association votes, and not even all of them get a vote.  NMPA should choose HOF inductees for NASCAR, IMO.

I'm with Chris on Raymond Parks.  I would also go with Red Byron, his driver and first NASCAR champ.  I would also like the nominees to include Chris Economacki, Ken Squire and Ned Jarrett.  Others to be considered are Tim Flock, Cale Y, Lee Petty, and Smoky Unick.

I looked at the original nominees for last year because I think the next class comes from that list. Based on that my picks would be:
David Pearson - if it were not for Petty he would have been the king of the sport
Cale Yarborough - Because of his streak of 3 championships and last year a lot of attention was given to him when Johnson won his third in a row.
Bud Moore - Helped grow the sport as an owner and innovator and he was part of the first 50 years. doesn't hurt that he is a true American military hero.
Raymond Parks -  Legendary Owner and his recent death put him on a lot of voters mind.
Either Hendrick or Childress - Could argue either way but I think they have to put in someone that "today's" fan recognizes. After all it is all about selling tickets.

I did what Justafan did. and looked at who was left from last year.

However I think we'll see some thing interesting on Thursday. We'll see non drivers owners in the 25. So in no particular order

Cale Yarborough

David Pearson

Chris Economacki

Dale Inman

Raymond Parks

I would like to see NASCAR borrow another idea, along with voting, from baseball.  I'd really like there to be a wing for writers and other media-like Chris Economacki.  Cooperstown has one, and it's very cool.  I think that as the Hall gets very full, like Cooperstown has, writers would get lost in the shuffle and over looked by fans if they were in the main Hall as people pick and choose what to read in-depth.  But if you walk through a wing dedicated to those that brought us the sport and made us identify with it and see those names, it is very powerful, and to a journalist at least, inspirational.

I'm not really sure who will be nominated...however, I think it should be mostly be founding drivers.  I agreed with putting the top guns in the inaugural class...but this class should be people like Byron, Raymond Parks, people back in the first 15 years or so of the sport.

I agree!  I was thinking this the other day...if that happens, Ken Squire must be inducted!!

NASCAR.com has released two of the 25 nominee's this year. They've also stated that 20 will be repeat nominees. They're trying to open debate on two modified champions and who deserves to be in the HOF.

http://www.nascar.com/2010/news/features/06/28/head.2.head.modifieds.hof/index.html

They've announce that Ritchie Evans (repeat nominee) and Jerry Cook (new nominee) are eligible for this years hall. The rest of the list including the 4 other addition will be revealed on Thursday at 8pm EST which will be aired on speed and covered by NASCAR Race Hub show. Krista Voda is hosting all this week.
