I know that Ron Hornaday wrapped up his championship at Phoenix. But if you've miised the truck series you're missing some of the most exciting racing that NASCAR is putting on tracks. This is only the SECOND time in truck series history that the Championship has been decided prior to the season finale.

It's definately been a season of highs and lows. Seeing Johnny Benson getting released from a ride. Seeing Mike Skinner show flashes of brilliance with an under funded team. Timothy Peters winning his first race at Martinsville. Ron Hornaday joining the likes of only Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon as a 4 time champion. Brian Scott getting his first win and then having to race with a cast for 8 weeks. Johnny Sauter finding ressurrection with Thorsport racing.

Next season looks like it's going to be even better. Skinner is back with RMM. Sauter and Crafton stay at Thorsport. Ron and Rick at KHI for another year. The Onion will be back with Germain. And we'll have a new team Turner Motorsports with Ricky Charmichael and Monster. Kyle Busch is supposedly going to have a two truck team, there are elements out of his control right now. But the hot rumor is Johnny Benson will be that teams seasoned driver.

And above all else NASCAR is finally going back to normal pit stops and we'll see the double file restarts next year in the CWTS.

And let's not forget first career wins for Brian Scott, Colin Braun and Johnny Sauter as well.  It truly has been a great year in the trucks when the Cup side has been mediocre at best.  If you missed it Friday night, be sure to check out the burnouts following the race...probably one of the coolest things I've seen in a while.

Coming into this weekend, the championship is decided and ROTY is pretty much decided (Sauter holds a 52 point lead over Malsam).  But we've got three guys separated by just 25 points to get into the Top 5 and on the stage at the banquet.  It's gonna be an interesting race that's for sure.

Expect the unexpected. That's what I like about the truck series. Points racing? Must be a Cup thing.

Colin Braun is starting (err rather started...getting started now on the DVR) on the pole and has a great shot at working his way into the Top 5.  I just hope the announcers don't nail the race for 5th in points into our heads so badly that they forget to broadcast the race.  I honestly don't expect it from Speed, but last week was pretty disappointing as far as coverage from the Speed group.  Hopefully they'll close out the season with a bang.

What a wrap up to a great 2009 season. Of course I say that as a Hornaday fan..but really 2009 has been a great season. I won't rehash what you (KBF) wrote about this morning but you hit some high points.

We saw a household name (somewhat) in Ricky Carmichael  join the series in a part time role and parlayed it into a fulll time ride with a team recieving technical help from the team that gave him the oppertunity.

We're seeing two complete teams move up out of the truck series. We're seeing one and possibly two new teams for 2010 depending on what Kyle Busch can put together before January.

We've seen KHI support every Chevy team that asks for help and develop a new truck for 2010 that just won back to back races on a 1 mile flat track and a 1.5 cookie cutter defeating the series hottest driver Kyle Bush in both races. . Toyota still has a presence in the truck garage. I wish we could say the same for Dodge and Ford who see thier camps shrink further.

What other series offers up matching prizes for the champion and one lucky fan, who both recieved new motorhome's from Camping World.

I only wished the Johnny Sauter who has found redemption in the CWTS had secured the 5th place in points but lost out by a handfull to CWTS sophmore Colin Braun. Sauter takes the ROTY honors, in what was really an unfair fight after teaming back up with crew chief Joe Shear.

As far as tonight went I was glad to see speed re-focus thier efforts after a tunnel vision broadcast last week as Ron clinched the Championship. All thought not a fan of DW the commentator is was pure Karma to hear the dissapointment in him as his man love Kyle Busch got black flagged for a pit road violation on an emergency stop for a flat tire.

It was to bad that the owners championship was won and lost on pit road but such has been the season with it's confounded rule preventing fueling and tires on the same stop. Thank god that experiment is over.

Did anyone else notcie Kevin's comment in Victory Lane about the lack of focus of the #33 team late in the season? Not sure what that was all about or I mis-understood what he was trying to infer.

Was sad to see Terry Cook's streak come to an end.

We'll have plenty to look forwrad to over the winter. The Johnny Benson where does he go, will Kyle get his team started, Who's in the second KHI truck, Will KHI release the #4 for Turner motorsports and Ricky?

The banquet is on Monday combined with the top 5 out of the NNS and will be aired immediately before the sprint cup banquet on speed on December 4th.

Well you pretty much summed it up.  I have a few gripes about the broadcast itself, but I'll leave that stuff to Phil on Tuesday.

And of course as usual, the Truck Series did not disappoint and will most likely be the best race of the weekend.

Any chance that ticket is for Sept 25th at the vegas stand alone event? Already making plans here! I'm also looking to see what my schedule next year can support the fall races at Phoenix.

All in All a great year for the trucks only thing I disagree with is Johnny Sauter winning Rookie of the year award he's been racing 10+ years in the upper series that award should be for a true Rookie like Taylor Malsam or the likes? whats next Jeff Gordon gets Rookie of the year in trucks  Roll Eyes
