And Rusty, Jarrett, Spencer, Andretti, Waltrip, Cope, Marlin, W. Burton, etc.  They changed the rule for one guy and EVERYONE knows it.  Stop haten on Joey and move on.
Dude whats with the Hate crap I simply stated a fact

•Budweiser Shootout eligibility rules change: NASCAR announced Wednesday a revision to the 2010 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona format that provides fans with a strong lineup of drivers highlighted by last year's top performers and a collection of previous winners at the sport's most-storied race track. The 32nd annual season-opening event launches Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 6 with green flag set for 8:10pm/et. The new criteria are based upon the following qualifications, with eligibility based on a driver having competed in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series within the last two seasons:
" The 12 drivers that qualified for the 2009 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup
" Past NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions
" Past Budweiser Shootout champions
" Past Daytona 500 and Coke Zero 400 champions
" The reigning Raybestos Rookie of the Year
You saying this effects anyone else but Joey?

I'm with you guys...
All the manuverings are just to get certain people in the field.
USED to be they had "standard" rules year after year (ie winning a pole)  If you didn't win a pole you missed the show..
Pretty simple, and teams knew what they neded to do to get in..

As far as the race...  seems to me it's just an "extra" practice session for the selected teams.
If they REALLY want to make the race more exciting for the fans.. they chould have a shorter race, or have shorter segments (especially near the end.)  something that would get them bunched up with just a few laps to go....
Oh wait.. NASCAR already does that   They just call it a 'debris caution'

I suspect "debris" in just a fancy word for bovine excrement.

Hell they have to have full Field more or less ! They had Past Champions Eligibility and Past Race Winner for the Silly OLe Man and DW , Jarret , Cope etc. Since many of the Past Champions and Race Winners has be reduced to within the last
2 yrs they had to involve the Rookie of the Yr. I have no Problem with Joey who has talent and marketing persona , it was when some of the 3rd line drivers had opportunity due to Manf Points that I was gagging lol . It won't be long before Logano or Hamlin (gag me) are up front consistently , even David Ragan when Roush gets some competitive rides for his drivers will be joining Cousin Carl and Bif in Winners Circle !

Well, even though the 2010 format was manipulated to get Jr. in... and yes, we all knew that was coming... I actually like it better than the mess they created last year.  Doing a manufacturer's race based on last year's results when teams and drivers switch manufacturers in the offseason, hmm, who could have guessed there might be problems with that.  Roll Eyes

However, I still don't like it as well as when it was a race for pole winners.

So, I'll give credit to NASCAR for doing something halfway right, which is better than most of their recent decisions.

Now, if they could just leave it alone from one season to the next so everyone understands who is in and who is not... come to think of it, last year's format changed between the time it was announced and raceday so they could get Smoke in the show with his new team, so that actually lasted less than one season.
