Here's a crazy notion I thought of after watching the ARCA race, and seeing the threads here about how Bruton Smith should start his own series - why start from scratch when he could just buy ARCA, a series already operational and with a lot of heritage, too?  Maybe he could add on a top tier series above the Remax series, for drivers at today's Cup level (they even have a truck series already).  One advantage to ARCA - he could add SMI tracks to the current schedule (making the assumption he loses the ISC tracks) and still wind up with a diverse series that could even include short and dirt tracks.  The amount of attention Tony Stewart's charity race gets makes me think that racing fans would love to see the Cup level guys making regular trips to the dirt again...  of course he'd have to build a superspeedway (or expand a current one) to replace Talladega and Daytona.

*Added note* - yeah, I know a lot of the tracks have a capacity that's too small for a top tier series.  But my guess is those track operators would add on if they knew top-tier racers were coming, and in the meantime, it's not such a bad thing to have too few seats that would drive up ticket prices and demand, and perhaps make sure that local ratings are good since there weren't enough seats for everyone (better to have full stands and too few seats than the other way around, IMHO)...

I can't say I have not thought of that myself.  It sure would make it easier to go with something that exists rather than starting from the ground up.  Especially when you aren't a spring chicken any longer (sorry BS but facts are facts).  He does own enough tracks to give a good show.  The only thing he'd need is a big enough purse to pay the top tier drivers and a TV contract to help with that.

Maybe he could start by getting JR who know's JR might even be able to win a race or two that way Grin
