When exactly did he become overrated as a driver? I didn't watch Nascar when Jr was winning, nor do I know anything about his Busch championships, I know he is capable of winning and has won many races in a single year, so please tell me seasoned fans what is the deal with him?

DoTheDew, I think the deal with Jr is that in the last 5 years he has been very average at best. 2004 was by far his best year. Every year we hear the media talk about how this is Jr's year to break out and it just hasn't happened. No doubt he is in as good of equipment as anybody. Last year he joined the dream team of Hendrick but just did not produce. He had a 22nd place average finish.
I don't dislike him but am tired of hearing about him. Could DW have been any more bias than the end of yesterday's race when he was cheering on "junebug"?
Just my opinion.

Just a fan....I know where you're coming from.  Watching the end of that race, I felt it was so unprofessional the way he was cheering Junior on.  Don't get me wrong...I was impressed by that last lap run to second, but as a broadcaster there's a responsibility to remain unbiased.

DTD...don't worry about Junior.  I'm willing to bet this offseason did what he needed.  He had time to clear his head, and if the media would just back off a little I bet the drop in the pressure on him alone will go a long way.  Don't lose faith Smiley

I was kinda surprised because I have always got the impression that DW doesn't care too much for Jr as a driver.

DW just being DW ! I think Jr. may have a better chance this yr. If he does not improve Hendrik will be forced with a Very Tough Decision !  Wink

DW has always impressed me as a bandwagon fan of Jr.  When he's having a tough race, he'll put Jr. down like crazy, but man he cheers like crazy when Jr is doing great.  I think he's a HMS fan period...

I think DW sees Jr for what he is.... an unsatisfied driver. DW was on Wind Tunnel after the race and said something interesting about Jr being at Hendrick. I can't quote it so I won't try but what I got out of it was that if Jr has another year like the last 2, he will cut his association with HMS and go Cup racing with Jr Motorsports. He and Kelly will be in charge, he will have Pops and Tony Jr with him making him back in what Jr percieves his comfort zone.

DW predicted Jr would go to Hendrick. Maybe that was inside info being leaked, I don't know. It will be interesting to watch and see how this year unfolds for Jr. and what he chooses to do with his future.
