What I don't like about penalizing both drivers is that while Edwards seems to be penalized for crashing Keselowski, which makes sense, BK is getting penalized for racing Edwards hard, which doesn't.
Then again, I still believe neither of these guys should have been in this race in the first place. I'm sure Shelby Howard and Steve Arpin would have rather not had their top ten-caliber cars destroyed in some Cup Series donnybrook played-out on what should be the Nationwide regulars' turf.
Well, you're using common sense. That doesn't always apply in NASCAR.
I brought up elsewhere the 2003 Darlington race where Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch traded paint on the final lap, and gave the fans one of the all time great finishes. No problem with that kind of contact. The deliberate take-out (and Edwards never denied that's what it was, actually seemed quite proud of himself for doing it) was all that needed to be punished.
I agree with Doug, the Keso probation is to prevent future retaliation. But, there's no precedent for punishing someone in advance for what you think they might do.
As far as the small time NW teams, I suspect many of them brought their "A" equipment to Gateway in hopes of a good finish, since that was a race where fewer Cup crossovers were expected. It didn't work out for some of them. The man in the hat should write them a check for the damages, and take it out of Carl's pay.

It fakes out a lot of fans because they are used to hearing probation used in criminal deals, but in reality, it doesn't mean anything
right on the money.. and this really amounts to "a slap on the wrist'.. no one knows IF edwards did anything this week what THAT punishment would lead to.. what.. a "larger" fine.
It's all smoke and mirrors... just a 'show'

I couldn't agree more.

BK's probation, "real"or not, is a total joke. It's the same as me keeping a kid after school because I think he might do something at some future time, so I'll punish him now.

Judging from the number of times this weekend we saw TV promo with the Edwards and Keso haulers, I'd say the management is not all that upset over the recent goings-on. More like, "you're on probation, but thanks for helping sell tickets, boys."

That's an ESPN promo. It was filmed way before gateway, I found it as no surprise that it was leaked on Sunday "feel for reaction" and then played what seemed every other break this weekend during Indy.
