Casey Mears will be taking over the #36 ride this week.

Sometimes, a driver needs to take any available ride just to stay visible and not be forgotten.

But... Mears has a reputation as an underachiever.  Mike Bliss started the season in the #36, and IMO did a rock solid job of qualifying the car, even if he had to start & park it.

Opinions?  I think Mears will struggle and DNQ more than Bliss, hurting any future prospects of getting back to a fully sponsored ride more than he's helped.

Over-all the #36 hasn't had to many DNQ's compared to the primary S&P teams. He's sort of following the Dave Blaney plan keep your name getting mentioned weekly and pray for a better gig. Wouldn't be surprised to see him full time in NNS or Trucks next year, like Sauter and Sorenson. But hey a paycheck is a paycheck.

I would think the truck series would be the best place for him to be job-hunting.  He could be competitive at that level.  NNW right now would mostly leave him the choice of being the primary driver for a struggling team, or a shared ride with a good team where he just filled in weeks where the Cup drivers were sitting out.

IMO his career was killed when he couldn't make it at HMS.

IMO he does not have a career to kill so being a start and park will not matter. I think his best plan would be to either go to the trucks or to open wheel. I think the owners want the next greatest thing and he already had his shot and was not bale to perform at a level good enough to keep a ride.

The #36 also picked up some last minute sponsorship from HD Segur for that race.  They need to keep doing that for the weeks Wave Energy Drink isn't on the car.  Not a bad start for Casey & TBR, better that I expected.

Better ride than the 90 car. At least there is some sponsorship.
