saw this on Jayski
I'm telling ya.. I think I'd quit flying if I were him...

Roush suffers minor injuries in plane crash: NASCAR team owner Jack Roush suffered minor cuts on his head in a plane crash Tuesday evening at Whitman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI. Roush was flying his private jet, a Beechcraft Premier 1A from Detroit. The jet made hard contact on landing and cracked the fuselage. Brenda Strickland, a friend of Roush's, also was on board the plane. NASCAR journalist Bob Margolis, who is writing a book about Roush's life, was told that Roush and Strickland were not seriously hurt. "Jack got out and had blood some blood on his face," Margolis said. "Apparently he bumped his head. They both were taken to a local hospital for observation, but I've been told they are OK." Roush, an experienced pilot, suffered serious injuries in a plane crash near Talladega, Ala., in 2002. He was flying his P-51 aircraft when it crashed into a lake. Roush was unconscious and would have drowned, but he was pulled from the water by Larry Hicks, a retired marine who lived nearby and saw the crash. Roush was in Oshkosh for EAA AirVenture, an annual air show.(ESPN)
AND On Tuesday afternoon, a loud bang was heard across Aeroshell Square as a Beechcraft Premier jet pancaked onto the runway and broke in half. No flames or smoke were seen, and rescue crews are were on the scene at about 7 p.m. The tail number shows that the aircraft is registered to Roush Racing. EAA spokesman Dick Knapinski told AVweb that early unconfirmed reports he had heard were that two were people were on board and both were out and standing. A pilot who witnessed the crash told AVweb that the jet appeared to be coming in to land on Runway 18, then seemed to be initiating a go-around when one wing dropped, and the jet fell toward the ground.(see an image of the plane at avweb.com

There's a couple of pictures on twitter with him coming out VERY bloodied. I'm glad he's okay. Supposedly the EEA airfield in Wisconsin is having an airshow this week. He had aborted the landing and upon trying to re-achieve lift the plane stalled and had a hard impact. He's definitely using up his nine lives.

Now since he's okay.

The last thing the air traffic controller heard was. "And then Carl turned like this"

Fractured back, busted up face with plates placed, sinuses packed, and he lost his left eye. And he surprised his entire team by showing up at the track for qualifying yesterday, after being discharged. I KNEW nothing would keep him from the track once he was out....I hope they parked his RV close to the garage, because he needs the rest!! Cheesy

I followed his progress on Twitter, as people came on with pics and information, then he gave a formal interview detailing more of his injuries....he looks skinny but not frail, and the untucked shirt speaks to the back brace underneath, clothing swims, but he was there!! Here's hoping he's in victory lane at least once this weekend. Cheesy

I do believe that's his personal assistant, Brenda, who was in the plane with him, the blonde lady....good to see her back, too.

Here's the article where he confirms what injuries he had, and that he lost his left eye:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/blog/from_the_marbles/post/Jack-Roush-confirms-he-lost-his-left-eye-in-plan?urn=nascar-262335

And Mark Martin speaks about what Jack told him about the crash...much as I expected, they released a clip of Jack questioning the tower's directions....

Jack's audio interview about how he is doing. I love the quote in one of these articles where he says he uses his right eye to read spark plugs anyway. LOL

All of those photos were posted on twitter by various twitterers. Is that right? Tweeters?? I dunno. PEOPLE FOLLOWING JACK'S PROGRESS THROUGH THE GARAGE AND POSTING IT TO TWITTER!!  LOL

Quote
“Well, I won’t be able to read power plugs in my left eye, but I always use my right eye for that because that’s the dominant eye.”
LOL

Jack's cliff notes explanation of what happened that day:
Quote
CAN YOU JUST GIVE US THE CLIFF NOTES VERSION OF WHAT HAPPENED? “I filed my NTSB report today, which is a matter of public record. It speaks for itself. The reality of it -- on a trip arrival into Oshkosh, Wisconsin I was put in conflict with the flight plan of another airplane close to the ground, and I was unable to address the conflict and keep the airplane flying.  I ground-looped the airplane and I have a compression fracture in my back. I have some damage in my left eye and I’ve got damage to my left cheek. I’ll recover everything but the sight in my left eye.”
http://www.racingwire.info/sprint-cup/863-sprint-cup-roush-breaks-back-and-looses-the-use-of-his-left-eye

There's conflicting information on whether the left eye is actually gone or not. He says he ruptured his left eye and has permenently lost use of it, and that it is stitched shut. That could indicate they removed the eye, or simply they stitched it shut with the damaged eye in there.

Sorry if that grosses anyone out to think about...me, the more I know, the happier I am. Cheesy

It ticks me off those out there who don't know what happened that day, just that he crashed a plane for the second time, saying he should have his pilot's license pulled...he AVOIDED HITTING ANOTHER PLANE, even though the end result was he crashed....that, IMO, is the earmark of an EXCELLENT pilot, and I'd fly with Jack Roush any time. The number of hours he's flown (he flies weekly at least, if not more often), versus 2 crashes (one in an experimental plane)....well, if I had a friend who drove a car for 40 odd years, and had 2 car crashes in that time, and one of them was while having fun, trying something new, (BTW, Jack reminds everyone he's survived 2 car wrecks, too, back in his racing days) and the other was as a result of someone else's stupidity and that friend avoided wrecking someone else by his actions, then I'd still get into the car with that person.

I'm with you BB
Hate to hear people complain that don't have all the facts..
From the way I read things he had clearance to land,.. and somehow (either the other pilot make a mistake - or the tower told the pilot to be in the same place Jack had already been cleared for)
In either event,.. like you said,.. he did a great job of not hitting the other plane, and have a much worse incident then it was.
Shame Jack lost his eye trying to keep from involving others.  I say he gets a great big "KUDOS" from me.
I've always said he is a class act.. and is a delight to be around.

Jacks never been my favorite owner but he's OK by me.

Its really too bad about the eye if true.

For a guy that loves flying and racing planes its the hardest thing ever.

Sadly, he will never pilot a plane again now since you have  no depth perception with only one eye it would disqualify him medically.

He better be a darn good one, cause it sounds like Jack's already had the best Co pilot there is to have survived these crashes as he has.

If ya get my drift and book reference that is. Wink

Jack may be flying with a co-piliot, (he'd BETTER be anyways, cause like I said you have NO, ZIP, NADA, ZERO depth perception with only one eye) but his FAA medical cert is toast when it comes time to recertify.

I had to have a depth perception test when i got my crane operators cert many years ago and like running a crane flying is simply impossible with little, poor depth perception to tell you how far off the ground or far away something is. There is just no adapting to it to get bye either. Other than dying its about the worst thing that could happen to a pilot, crane operator , race car /truck driver etc. that MUST be able to judge distances VERY accurately to safely do their job.

I was about to say the same thing.
I remember a CUP driver racing a while with a patch and it seems they won a race
