Everybody has an opinion and I guess I'll give mine on the HOF. All of the guys selected were top notch and deserve to be in the Hall. As an Alabama native I was happy Bobby got in to represent "The Gang".
Cale deserves it and will likely get in next year. I think what hurt him is the fact that he has had nothing to do with the sport in a long time. But no doubt he will make it.
As far as DW goes. Hmmm...All I can say is I hope he never gets recognized by the HOF. I am sure he will, but him getting passed over this year made my day. I have had an opportunity to be around him on a couple of occasions and every time have seen him treat others like crap. I certainly can't judge his heart, but his actions around me do not support the Christian life he claims.
I read where Ned stated he has tried to live a healthier life in hopes of seeing the day he was selected. He has represented the sport well in every aspect and might have been the most deserving of all this year. Congratulations Ned!

It's hard for me to separate DW "the driver" from DW "the babbling idiot" on TV. His last years on the track were an embarrassment and he's continuing that trend in the booth. I wouldn't consider putting him in the HOF until he retires from the broadcast booth.

 Pearson was slighted last year.

yeah.. I agree Richie is a future Hall of Famer...
I don't see it coming for several years yet.  Drivers from the CUP series, mechanics, crew chiefs, and even owners from the top tier will probably get the nod ahead of most of the lower division drivers.
Fireball Roberts, Fred Lorenson, Cale Yarborough, Ray Parks, Dale Inman, Buck Baker, Tim Flock, Herb Thomas, and many others

I was glad to see Bud Moore get the respect he is well deserving of.

Bid Moore was a great Championship crew chief, and a WWII war veteran, Moore went ashore on D Day at Utah Beach, and while serving he was  awarded five Purple Hearts, and two Bronze Stars for valor.
Four of the Purple Hearts were awarded for separate shrapnel wounds; the fifth for a gunshot wound. The first Bronze Star was given for his staying on the front lines for nine months and 14 days without having to be evacuated. The second was for capturing a German army headquarters.

Not to mention he created Bud Moore engineering.  They debuted in 1961.  notable motor racers have driven for Moore, including Fireball Roberts, Darel Dieringer, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Isaac, Dale Earnhardt, Darrell Waltrip, Donnie Allison, Geoff Bodine, Ricky Rudd, Brett Bodine, and Morgan Shepherd.  Moore was the crew chief in 1957 when Buck Baker won the CUP championship.  More was the car owner when Joe Weatherly won the CUP championships in 1962 & 1963.

EASY to see why he was added...  a Top choice

I still say Barney Hall should go in the first 5 years, but that probably will not happen.

I think I agree with Dale Jarrett who felt like they should have had a larger class the first couple of years. Maybe those classes chould have been heavy in the older drivers in order to get them in. Sad to say but I believe several will get overlooked as the years go by.
Another thought would be to designate that one driver has to have retired more than 25 years ago, one must be from a lower series, one must be a mechanic/chief/owner, etc.

The voters seem to have adopted that policy informally.  I know if I were casting a ballot I would want to be sure I was giving fair representation to different eras and non-drivers, and occassionally very significant non-Cup drivers (Richie Evans, Red Farmer).  Eventually we might get a class of 5 Cup drivers, but I don't think it will happen soon.

I was thinking (I know, a dangerous thing) just today, that Jeff Gordon is a shoe-in whenever he hangs up his helmet.

 Just typing out loud.

I'm sitting in a press conference with Ned Jarrett, Bobby Allison, Bud Moore, and members of the Petty Family.  What they gave to our sport is immeasurable.  It's humbling to be in the presence of some of the sport's true heroes.
