It's ALL about me!!

« on: June 07, 2006, 11:39:06 AM »

I know this may be just my own personal dislike of Rick Hendrick, and that organization but, it just seems to me that DW just cant stop pimping Jeff Gordon and about  any Hendrick car.

Even when JG is not running good he constantly keeps bringing JG up and has to have the camera cut to him.JG this and JG that. Hendrick this and Hendrick that it seems.I swear sometimes  DW must have a man love for Ol Jeffie, and it just drives me crazy!

Also , it seesm that NASCAR tries exceptionally hard to pimp JG and Rick Hendrick. Even to the point of promoting JG as the face of NASCAR.

Tell me your thoughts on this. Am I just being a hater, OR does anyone else see some of this, or something similiar??

On another note is this crap of FX and Fox not coming back to the race on an accident ticking anyone else off?? It sure does me!  Sometimes we never, or at least for some time find out what even happened. Dangit it aint like the NFL and they take TV timeouts ya know. I LOVE the split screen thing but I understand why they dont wnat to use it I guess.

Ya know I'd settle for just coming back or putting the split screen up if something happens while away. What would be wrong with that and they already have the capability. Thoughts??

It's funny...cause last season DW always found something not so nice to mention about Jeff Gordon.  Go figure!

I read a comment like that on another board about DW being partial to a certain driver, so I started paying more attention.  I've observed that he doesn't just limit it to one or two drivers, I've seen him act that way about NUMEROUS drivers.  ha,ha, there ARE times when I wish he would put a sock in his mouth, but that's probably because I happen to be mad at the moment at that particular driver.  tsk, tsk on me...heh,heh, sometimes I just can't help it. Cheesy Kiss   I wonder if he may be reliving some memories of his own as different things unfold during a race....has HE been in those situations?   hmmm.... could be.  I also think it's partially due to his passion for the sport being as strong as ever.  Good for DW.

DW can't win for losing. Either he's talking TOO much about Mikey or not enough about Mikey or he's talking TOO much about Driver whoever or not enough about the rest of the field.

Actually... DW is usually talking to much about "me, me, me"... and not enough about the race at hand

I actually haven't really listend to DW all that much. I just tend to listen to MRN or PRN while watching the race.

There are like 10 guys that have to be spotlighted during every race, otherwise the fans will tune out and Hendrick happens to have two of them.  People tune in to see Jeff and Jimmy and Junior and Tony and Matt, etc.,.  It's no mystery why these guys are favorites.  People like winners.  Don't get me wrong, I love Kyle Petty, Bobby Labonty and Boris and Front row Joe, but if they spent 20% of the program talking about the field fillers people would be raising a stink.  Face it, even if you dislike a certain driver, you understand why DW would focus on certain guys.

I understand your reasoning.... to a POINT smyler.
But what seems to be the problem is this...

The announcers seem to follow the SAME guys whether they are running up front,... or they SUCK and are running mid-pack or in the back.
When they run in the BACK... they don't DESERVE and mention,..

When the Nemecheks, and Petty's and Labontes run up front is when THEY deserve to be mentioned and brought to everyones attention.  But even then they are STILL ignored.

I think it goes without saying that NASCAR television coverage, regardless of what network is carrying it, is unfair.  I love to see guys like front row Joe do well.  Maybe more coverage would allow guys like Derick Cope to be more competetive because the sponsors know they will be seen on tv.  Can 2% of the people who regularly watch NASCAR tell me who the sponsor for Carl Long is?  How about Stanton Barrett?  I can't.  But I do know the main sponsor for just about all the guys in the top 35.

There was a good story on here a few weeks ago about why more people won't sponsor in Busch.  Television coverage can make or break the race teams.  I know that if I was going to sponsor a team, I'd rather be an associate on a good team than main sponsor on a field filling team.  It's not fair but it's the system we live with.

Everyone was all excited about how Terry did in Infineon, because he wasn't expected to do that well.  I'm glad he did well.  His crew chief made a good call to keep him out.  I thought it was an awful call at the time because I didn't believe there would be that many caution laps, and I've seen many drivers get caught with too little fuel at that track.  Terry got a lot of coverage for the following week, and I'm sure his sponsor was happy about it, but can you name his sponsor?  We all know it's the advertisers who make the sport.

One last thing, at least TNT/NBC do try and do the "through the field" reports, which I wish Fox would do.  In years past, they actually went clear through the field though.  I do want to know why the guy in 39th is in 39th.  As a fan of the sport and not just one driver, I feel ripped off by just seeing field position and not knowing why they are where they are.

I agree completely.  I have never understood when people complain about NBC doing "Through the Field!"  Sometimes it's the only time they talk about my driver all night (I am and have always been a Kenny Wallace fan first).  They need to remember that every driver has fans, and they deserve to know where that guy is running and why-if anything, they need to do "Through the Field" more often during races for that very reason.

As for DW, I can't stand him OR Larry Mac.  I've never noticed DW particularly biased toward Jeff, but he is WAY in Michael's corner (yeah, Mikey's his brother, but DW sometimes borders on unprofessional in that regard) and he also seems to be on the Budwagon a lot of the time, too.

I guess no one but me read DW's book. Called going around in circles. If he has any favortism about Hendrick it's probably because they are very good friends and when DW wanted to go out on his own Rick and DW have a car dealership together and Rick wouldn't buy him out he told DW that he might need his half of the dealership in the future.
