Check this bright idea out..??  I bet Brian the Brain came up with this one..??

Quote
Late season race times moved to avoid conflict with NFL: NASCAR will stray from last year's standardized start times this season in an effort to boost sagging television ratings. Specifically NASCAR races in the last third of the season will slide back to a later green flag to avoid going head-to-head with NFL kickoffs. While the majority of the races televised in the first half of the year as part of the FOX television package will remain in the 1 p.m. ET start range, green flags will slide back later in the year. A 2 p.m. ET beginning is the plan for most of the races in September through November with west coast venues including Texas and Phoenix near the tail end of the schedule, going to a 3 p.m. ET start. The Homestead-Miami season-ending Ford 400 will also begin at 3 p.m. ET

Someone tell me exactly HOW this is going to "Avoid" conflict with the NFL games.
Previously the races AND the NFL games kicked off at 1 pm.   Now late season NASCAR races will start at 2 or 3 pm.
To me that seems it give fans of BOTH the races and NFL to watch the NFL games for an hour.. get all involved in watching their local team... and not bother to turn the channel when the race starts....
The West coast races will start at 3 pm... which will be just before the West Coast homes teams games kick off.
Looks like to me.. they could EASILY LOSE audience members.

Hi chris i seen this earlier today it just doesn't make sense to me that they would do this because at the time of the day there are still football games on.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of ratings they get.

Ya know...just when ya think it cannot get anymore assinine with The Brian..it does!!

 I  agree Chris.
I have absolutely NO idea how ANYONE could have possibly sat down somewhere and figured out this and exactly HOW it would help alleviate the NFL Conflict problem. It makes NO sense NONE! And for the very reasons Chris gave.

In fact..Im not sure there IS an answer to losing fans to the NFL!

Now, I LOVE Stock Car racing but  Lets all be honest here. NASCAR is NOT putting out their  best product right now , IMHO,.

Races are long, sometimes boring, announcers irritate (cough cough DW cough) and often biased, you can usually pick the winner  as one from  the same group of  5 guys on a list  for any given race... 10 for sure !
You can nearly be 100% certain that the  winner  of ANY given race will come from that same  group (especially if the letters... on the car somewhere are HMS) of 5 or 10, penalties are infairly enforced and issued ,cautions are thrown to the  benefit of certain drivers or hurt others, often BLATANTLY,"Gray areas" exist, rules are chnaged yearly, little consistancy in many camps as far as drivers, etc ....allll that and more , AND, the NASCAR season itself  is just  VERY long .

By the time the NFL season starts, I am  more than READY for some football!!

If  most NFL fans are like me, (and I think most are) and  their favorite team is playing MOST fans of that team are gonna watch IT 1st!

And they (like me again ) may check back to the race  on commercial breaks,or  when it gets to the final laps  of the race  to see whop wins or where their driver finshes (IF it doesnt interfere with seeing the end of their game)OR when the NFL is at halftime, OR if their team is losing badly and it's over for sure.

They (like me) LOVE the sport of Stock Car Racing BUT, Their  NFL TEAM will come 1st.Thats justa fact and it's not gonna change IMHO.

IMHO the ONLY way to keep fans tuned into NASCAR and not tuned to the NFL is to not have them compete.
