Poll
Question: Tony Stewart's Home Depot team won this week thanks to some gambling that probably wouldn't have happened if he was racing for the championship.  Is this kind of racing actually better for the sponsors than the Chase teams playing it safe?  (Voting closed: October 11, 2006, 06:56:00 PM)
YES - 5 (83.3%)
NO - 1 (16.7%)
Total Voters: 6

Racing is racing...
All the teams find themselves in different strategies at different points... 'cept the chase guys.
Seems they ALWAYS have to play it close to the vest,...
SO at least the rest of the field can race like they "normally" (if only for the last 10 races of the season)
The first 26 they are all 'chasers, and are stuck plaing it close to the vest also trying to make the top 10.

I suppose it depends on *which* non-chasers you mean.

For someone like Stewart or, say, maybe an Edwards or a Biffle, they're going to get their sponsor time no matter what they do. It's a natural quality of the sport that the names can run for crap and we all have to listen to speculation (and then maybe exposition) on WHY they're crap.

For the other teams... well, I imagine if Joe Nemecheck led the last 10 laps of a regular season race, we might see his car for about three of those. I'm not sure he'd fare so well now, as the TV people would be so busy talking about not only the big-names and why they're not winning, but also the chasers who might otherwise not be on the aforementioned list.

There is a lot of people that don't like winning on fuel mileage, but racing is simply a time and distance event.  You go a certain distance and the one that gets there first wins.  If you spend less time in the pits and more on the track more power to ya!!!
