Rusty Wallace, Jerry Punch and Brent Musburger!??!?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news;_ylt=AiNHHVfCcxltfQW.bzk.Hw_ov7YF?slug=ap-nascar-charlotte-notebook&prov=ap&type=lgns

Musburger?!?!  He drives me up a wall when he calls football games.  At least he semi knows football but what does he know about racing?

The only thing I've every associated him and cars w/ is when he got pulled over from drinking and driving after a football he worked in Lincoln!

But it is good to see Jerry Punch back.  Maybe with Rusty in there Brent won't get a word in.  LOL

I feel the same way.  Also about the Grand Marshalls and engine starters that have never been to a Na$car race before.

I get the idea Musburger is gonna do the pre-race...
In the booth is gonna be Rusty, Jerry Punch, and Andy Petree.

Musburger will serve as NASCAR Countdown host for all races airing on ABC, including the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and select ESPN races including Daytona and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard

The trio will team with veteran pit reporters with a combined 45 additional years of motorsports experience - Allen Bestwick, Dave Burns, Jamie Little and Mike Massaro

I'm with you BB, Alan is a top notch reporter and his talents aren't being utilized to the fullest on pit road.  Does any of the three guys in the booth play hocky?  Maybe if they did he could get his job back.  At least Alan got a gig on ESPN.  The decision to put Bill Weber in the booth was BAD.  The decision maker said that Weber gave Benny and Wally more energy.  Here we have another non-Nascar guy making a decision that affected OUR sport.

It will be interesting to see how Petrie does in the booth.  He was Dale Earnhardt's crew chief and owner of Paul Menards Busch car before he went to DEI.

well,.. the three guys in the booth,.. I guess I don't have a problem with...
Jerry Punch I see as a GREAT race reporter.  Everyone should be happy with him.
As far as the other two,.. I guess it's kinda a 'been there- done that" kinda input.
A driver, and a crew chief to add analysis as the race goes on.  I guess I can't fault that.
It covers the thinking of the drivers, and also how the crew chief may be thinking,.. they'll know how the cars work,.. and may be able to have more 'technical' explaination and we may be able to learn something.
Maybe we can hear something besides 'loose', pushing', etc...

Rather have Petree that the guy that was their FIRST CHOICE (see below)
Quote
Brad Daugherty has worked with NASCAR behind the scenes on diversity issues, trying to increase minority interest and representation in what remains a very white sport. Now the Asheville [NC] resident will be front and center as an African-American voice on stock car racing, hosting a television show on ESPN. NASCAR officials have scheduled a press conference today in Charlotte to announce the television crew for ESPN’s 2007 coverage, a group that will include the Black Mountain native and former NBA star on the NASCAR Pit Studio Show. Daugherty has owned race teams in the Busch and Craftsman Truck Series and has served on NASCAR’s ultra-secret Rules and Competition Committee that doles out fines and punishments to drivers, but said he believes he can be a more visible minority voice on television

Looks like Nascar was pushing for a guy to push it "diversity" program from in front of the camera and in the booth.  ESPN (in it's usual self) went with QUALITY; and not a dog and pony show.

The ABC/ESPN team has to be a "VAST IMPROVEMENT" over these jokers at NBC.  I really enjoy BP (Benny Parsons), but Webber and Dalenbach annoy me.  Thank good "breathing from your livingroom is involuntary and the MUTE button is only a fingertip control away"
