CONCORD, N.C. - Kurt Busch's qualifying time was disallowed because the right-rear shock on the No. 2 Penske Racing South Dodge "did not conform to the NASCAR rules," NASCAR Vice President of Corporate Communications Jim Hunter said Thursday night.

Busch had posted the third-fastest speed in qualifying at 189.713 mph but will start 42nd in Saturday night's race.

Additional penalties are "possible," Hunter said.

Chances are he'll still get a good pit stall, since he'll still be able to pick that based on his original qualifying time. At least, that's the way it's been in the past when cars have gone to the back...of course, that's usually due to something like an engine change or otherwise having to work on the car during impound time, no idea if NASCAR will still allow him to pick his pit stall according to his qualifying time...never mind, hope I didn't get your hopes up...Cheesy

hhuumm..
If I'm not wrong (and I may be)...
I think he 'time' was thrown out,... so it's treated just like he crashed and never posted a time...
so he gets the last starting spot... and therefore gets to pick his starting spots last also.
Maybe someone can confirm that... but I think that is correct...
Maybe they'll say something about it on the race show tonight,...

Heck we should be able to tell JUST by his spot,.. If he gets to keep 3rd spot,.. he'll have a GOOD spot,.. if not he'll have a real crappy pit spot

Well I didn't get to catch the race at all...but judging strictly on looking at the results page I'm probably lucky I didn't.  Well I guess there's always next week....although waiting for next week over and over again is getting frustrating again....sigh

Well thanks for the info....I didn't know what happened at all.  What a frustrating season this has been.  And since you're new, you don't know that prior to being a Kurt fan I was a Jeff G fan for 12 years...so 2 years in a row I'm watching the chase from the outside looking in and watching my driver struggle the majority of the time.  I'm not gonna know what to do when Kurt starts running well again lol.

I was a Rusty fan since 1990 so I have been kinda bummed out all year. Now I pull for Stewart. I will be honest I was not a K.Busch fan at all when he drove for Roush. Now that he is in the #2 car he seem's to have settled down a little. I think all driver's have sort of an attitude until they go thru a dry spell and run terrible. K.Busch had his championship and won alot of race's but then his dry spell hit, But I am sure Team Penske will turn everything soon. Grin

I think you're onto something here Flame. Personalities. Driver's personalities and attitudes to be precise. And, to some extent, also the fan's personalities and attitudes.

I think:
There are compititors, winners, mentors, champions, greats, and legends.
One could be a winner, a great, a mentor, and even be a legend -- but not a champion (in a given series). Mark Martin would be a good example using his Cup records. But he'd fit at least 3 of the examples, which I think would qualify one for legend status.

Behind what a person has achieved, there's what a person is. Their essence, I guess.
I have personally known several major league sports figures and, almost every one of them shared an outwardly obvious trait. Competitiveness. Sometimes they aren't even aware that they are displaying that side of them.
Example, they've made commercials to illustrate the trait. Most recently is the parade float race through the down-town streets. For humor to be funny, it must be based -- at least partly -- in truth. Exagerated, some traits can be funny -- maybe most traits.
Try walking from a local retail shop to the car with someone with a winwinwin attitude.

If you walk too slowly, they often cause the pace to increase. If you pick your pace up too much, it's a challenge -- and the winwinwiner, will increase the pace more -- until, if not checked, you'll both be engaged in a footrace across the parking lot. Usually laughing upon arrival. It's a hoot, they'll often give you that, "that was cool!" look with a smile. That's a trait that NEEDS to be at it's keenest. Pracitce makes perfect. They need to keep it honed and little things like that help preserve instincts. Some have more of those instincts than others. That separates the wanna-bees from the winners etc.

Athletes compete to win, and drivers are athletes. A more burning desire to win than most probably have. Money is another reason, but considering they raced back in the day for next to nothing -- and still do in their free time, it's not ALL about the money to a true athlete.

This trait can and does, sometimes irritate some folks. Maybe because underneith, they too are competitive in nature and see this trait as a challenge they can't participate in. Sometimes this trait can cause one to appear self-centered, conceited, arrogant, and/or aloof. Goes with the territory.
Back in the day, owners didn't hire a face, or a personality -- they hired ability. Still true today, but now I think the face and personality are more important than in the past. Bottom line, if someone has big ears or an onion head -- and has proven their ability to put a race car up front -- it doesn't matter. Unless they look like me. Ain't NO sponsor that would pony up then. Not to mention I'd be shocked silly to go into a banked turn at 190 mph.

In short, their personalities and traits are real whether we like it or not. We have choices. We can either condem them for having desirable human traits that allow them to accell, or decide not to cheer for them. But what really burns my pudding is, for example:

Guys like Cousin Carl Edwards. Shux Howdy and Goll Durn. How can anyone not appreciate his Andy Griffith show personality? A personality that he displays probably 98 percent of the time. Yet, when Carl spoke his mind, all of a sudden what he displays maybe 1 or 2 percent of the time becomes the measuring stick for his essence. Obsurd!
And there are fans who do that sort of reasoning during short periods of actual thinking. The, "Don't confuse me with the facts -- I just hear/see what I WANT to hear/see, and disregard the rest. If y'all disagree with me, I'll kick your *(donkey)*, crowd."
Right -- Left or Wrong ------- doesn't matter.

Alabama is an example. Trash the track once, I might feel their pain. But, to make it a practice every race is a lack of class. SOMEbody is ALWAYS going to be disappointed at EVERY race. Imagine if all fans were low brows, prone to throwing objects. Wouldn't THAT be refreshing? -- Not.

Mention to those fans that they might be wise to consider altering their attitudes, and they'll tell YOU, "if YOU don't like it, ---- YOU can leave." HuH?! One-half percent -- or fewer -- are telling the majority by a huge margin, to vacate the area or allow THEM to continue being stupid.
At the end of the day, unfortunatley, it's the stupid ones who will be remembered.

As a result, we're likely to be denied access to the most desirable areas, distancing us farther away from our sport of racing.
So, they've also robbed the other fans of a more plesant experience.
That's selfish. Among other things. IMO

That's one thing that makes Frontstretch so comfortable. Folks can come together and discuss ideas and opinions and thoughts openly without the worry of being attacked. I'm sure you'll come to know that -- if you haven't already.
You have posted some very interesting thoughts, and I appreciate that. I hope you'll continue. You make me think. I like that. Wink Smiley

I am AMAZED at this turn of events... Roger Penske runs the tightest ship in whatever foprm of racing he's involved in... Money is never an obstacle...He's got it!! In all my years, and THAT goes all the way back to Penske's days with Mark Donahue in a Transam  AMC Javelin (which the took to the top several years iun a row!!), I would have NEVER believed this one!!!
