I am totaly shocked Shocked. I think it was Bill Weber was the one who said that Knaus told JJ to throttle back and take a clean second. That was a race that I watched  at least I thought it was. I understand that they are going for the championship and all, But you alway's have the what if factor. What if Kahne had wore out his tire's and JJ was running easy. I guess he will never know now,But I am sure he is thinking about it now. Atleast I would be. Maybe someone need's to tell JJ that he is supposed to race until that black and white checkered flag.

What you describe sounds like points racing to me. Something done in the 'past' until Brian France reinvented NA$CAR. Now, it prevents consistency from winning a championship, and insures drivers will be racing for the win every race.
Much more exciting according to Brian.
But, Brian isn't really a racer.
Or a fan either. Sad Undecided Wink Smiley

From what I heard JJ say on tv, he was keeping pace with KK but even after 20-something laps, he wasn't gaining any ground.  I thought he said something about gas may have been questionable and they decided to just secure the 2nd place finish, but I'm not sure how accurate that is...  It is surprising to hear a crew chief say back off and just secure 2nd though...

I think the perfect example happened at Kansas. When Stewart ran out of gas in the turn. Let's say that Mears was just going to take a clean second, But if he had been running as hard as he could even though he wasn't making up anytime he could have caught Stewart. Mears didn't run out of gas until after Stewart did.

Bet they didn't want to take chances with the engine either, after Jeffy's went up in smoke.

yeah,.. LOTS of blown motors last night...
that cool night air,... engine tuners went with bigger jets in the motor, that cool air made more rpms, and that is hanging rpms at a track like Lowes...
They were going off like pop corn there for a while...

There was a worry about Carls...a couple of times, he reported a vibration, which Jamie and Greg had reported before their engines went...had us on pins an needles for a while, but thankfully his motor lasted...Cheesy
