Ward to run the #4 at Martinsville: Ward Burton will return to the Nextel Cup Series next weekend at Martinsville Speedway behind the wheel of the #4 Morgan McClure Racing Chevy. Burton will be fitted for his driver's seat on Monday. The team would like to test with Burton on Wednesday or Thursday at New River Valley Speedway in Radford, Va., a .416-mile oval track similar to Martinsville.(Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service)(10-15-2006)
From Jayski

Here's hoping this leads to a full-time ride for him.

yeah,..
I saw that posted...
nice to see him in another car,...
this is one of the few cars without a driver lined up for 2007...
if he drives the #4 car for 2007,.. he sure screwed himself the last couple years.

The whole point (he said) he wasn't going to drive CUP any more unless it was with a top notch team... well;  this is a LONG way from a top notch team...
He could of driven for a team THIS good when he FIRST lost his ride, and never missed a beat,...
Just looks like to me he figured out no "quality" team wanted him,.. and he'd have to take what he could get and 'prove' himself all over again, and 'earn' his way back into a top notch ride.  Looks to me like he sat out a couple years over 'ego'.

Heres to Ward.  Hope he can get a ride with someone,... Maybe he can prove he can still drive, and get a better ride.  I think with the CoT coming in next season,.. it'll be an equalizer.

Ward's plans: Ward Burton told Sirius Speedway (MRN/Sirius Satellite Radio) Monday that there is still an outside chance that he might team-up with Robert Yates Racing in the future, but he now believes the team is looking elsewhere for a driver. "Teams need economic support to race," he said. "If Robert Yates Racing aligned itself with someone like me -- an older driver -- they could lose an opportunity elsewhere that they don't know about yet. It takes a concerted effort by the driver, the team and its marketing department to make a sponsorship deal happen, and I guess I don't feel like that concerted effort has been made. Nothing against Robert and Doug Yates. They're in a situation that they haven't been in before, and it's foreign to them." Burton said there is a possibility that this weekend's one-off ride with Morgan-McClure Racing could turn into something more long-term, but stressed that talks are still at a very early stage.(Sirius Speedway)(10-17-2006)

I like it when Ward races.

But I think Ward is missing an opportunity for a new and reWARDing career.

I think Ward would be the PERFECT voice for an up and coming animated feature film. Match his voice to the right character and Ward could wind up bigger than NA$CAR.

He WOULD have been perfect for a character in Cars...rather than the little french guy running the tire place, Ward should have been...or as the voice of Mater. Can't you just hear him as a counterpart for the lead, the speedy little racecar...just listening to him would have slowed him down...and the natural comedy of misunderstandings due to the accent...Cheesy:D:D

Well.. it's Friday moening and qualifying day...
I don't want to bust anyones bubble... but lets not put the cart before the horse...

Lets all remember Ward is in the #4 car,.. and it's a "go or go home" car.
Could be if you all want to see Ward on the track this weekend you better watch qualifying.... 2 laps may be all you get to see.
That car is "marginal" (at best) and with Ward not driving for two years,.... if he has a 50/50 shot at getting in the field I'd say thats being 'positive'

well.... HERE's a GOOD sign..
Ward was FASTER than NINE other go or go home cars in the first practice,...
SO maybe he can make the field...
Looks like he needs to beat 7

sat there and watched qualifying so I could see Ward run...
nodded off just a few cars before he ran,.. missed it all...
Woke up about 5 cars AFTER he ran...
I see he did run well... and did make the field.
Nice going Ward.

500 laps at Martinsville may be a little tough on the stamina after being out of a car for so long...
Nice to see Ragan made the field also...

Surprised to see Bliss miss as good as he is on short tracks on the CTS

This bring's up a good point. Here we have W.Burton who has been off track for roughly 3 or 4 year's. He show's up with a team who is the best in the world and make's the show. Then we have team's like the NAPA team and other's who have a BIG dollar backing and they can't seem to make race's. I know Waltrip didn't do the best with DEI, But If a guy can skip a few year's and have a comeback like this then it really make's me Wander Huh?.
