Hey Blu, I'm very happy it's the puter and NOT you who's ailin'!!

If you're on AOL, I think thay have a function that allows you to let someone remotely into your puter. I know Sir Quack has similar problems and never DID get it to work right. It works fine till he opens an IM then it gives him about 15 mins before it freezes. He gets error messages too,it also reboots its self. Scarey. Wasn't there a virus  going around, that was spreading through IM's??

Good luck  Blu, sorry I know very little other than just cleaning it up or reformating.

Hey Blu.  If you're still getting a lot of popups, you may have lots of spyware on your machine.  Do you by chance have Ad-Aware?  I don't know how good it does, but it supposed to find spyware and then you can delete it.  I think you can google it and get a "shareware" or "freeware" version (which of course does not do as thorough a job as the version you purchase, but it may help).

Hope this helps some.

Hey Ole Blu:

Try something called Webroot Spysweeper...it's lesss that $30 at any good electronics store (Best Buy, Compusa, Circuit City... Like that)... Install it ans sweep your machine 3 times in a row and it should eliminate the problem!! It will also provide a shield to keep it from happeniong again!!!

Had a friend who recently had the same problem....tried em all....Got her the Webroot and it killed the problem(s) for good!

Let me know if ya need any help and I'll call you and walk ya through it!

Say Hello to Jay for me...

OK a couple things..
DO you have one of those (Yahoo or otherwise) smiley face deals that you can put little smileys in emails.  MAN tjhose can cause a TON of pop-ups on your system.
You may have an extra tool bar on you system browser.  May be showing, may be hidden.  You can click on "View", then on "toolbars" and it'll list all the toolbars on the browser.  Each line should be listed.  The address bar will be one (where it chows the web address),.. then it should show 'buttons', etc.  Just click (or unclick) on what you want to show or not show.  Then click "lock toolbars"
If some smiley thing has slipped in, it may show up here,.. you won't eliminate it here,.. but it just may give you a clue..??

Sounds like you got the main stuff... ad-aware, spybot, etc...

Finally Symantec (makers of norton anti-virus) has an ONLINE virus checker that will check you computer for you and see if IT finds any viruses for you.
Sometimes it has found stuff nothing else has.
When it gets done it pop up a screen that shows you anything it found... and if it says something like:
C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\V4
then you know what the problem is,.. and where to find it,.. and just go in and delete it...

NOW click on the link below,...
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/home_homeoffice/index_virus.html

When you see this page... you'll see where on the LEFT it says "Step #1"... under that it says "Run Scan".... Click on that.
The next page it tells you what to do,.. and you click on "Next" at the bottom of the page...
Then the next page it says "Virus Detection", or "Security Scan"... you can do either one.  Click on your choice
Or you can do one,.. then go back and do the other.
When it gets done it'll show you the page I described above.  Before it really "Starts" it'll have a couple times you have to hit 'ok' or 'next' or something... NOTE it hasn't really STARTED until you see it start counting files

I've also heard that too many different "anti"-- programs can sometimes conflict with each other.
I've used WEB-ROOT SPYSWEEPER with outstanding results.
They also offer a free version that's pretty up-to-date, they just won't update it from there.
The free version won't remove EVERYthing it finds. (Go figure) But it will clean up some problems free.
I think the free version also provides a firewall.

I've also had a computer service enter my computer while we talked over the phone.
Fixed the problem in around 30 minutes while we watched the happenings on-screen.

Costs then were around a hundred bucks an hour.
The tech "fixed" our problems in about 20 minutes.
We talked about his opinions about software for another ten minutes.
The NEXT 10 minutes , --- we talked about what ELSE?
NASCAR. Additional time was at NO Charge.

Imagine that and go figure.

Ain't Mark Martin fans great?
