I've crewed there ALOT.... It is a pretty good track. Kinda gives you the feeling it's bigger than a half mile track.
There are some things they could have done better during the design and construction. I/E - the pits slope downhill so it's a pain to get the scales level - let alone pushing the car around thru tech., the crew stands cannot see the scoring tower unless you crowd to the turn one end, the windows you go to for paying your pit entrance fees are at thigh level. You have to get on your knees to do business and fill out the paperwork and we all know how notoriously bad a racers knees get.
The action will be great - wish I was there again. Nothing like seeing ALL the action and hearing everyone b*tch on the scanner.
I was a part of the 1st Toyota All-Star Showdown. I was a jackman for a Winston West team. Kinda miss being out of the action.
At least Speed Channel is going to broadcast it this year. The first 2 years were broadcast on HDnet (not included in the sports channel package offered by Time Warner)
There a reason why this national championship has been at Irwindale Speedway since it's inception. It's the consistant weather. Nice, wide 3 groove track. Facilities that can handle 70 teams and their Cup style haulers.
In the Grand National race - watch out for alot of East Coast vs. West Coast action. The last 2 years the East Coasters have been notorious for rough driving and intentional crashing.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY . . .
When I go to casinos, the most ridiculous sign I see is the one that says:
"If you have a gambling problem, call 1-800-GAMBLER."
So, I call them and say,
"I have an ace and a six. The dealer has a seven. What do I do?"

Hey... That's because, according to my good buddy and Pisan Big Looie, most of em were gypsy cab drivers in Brooklyn!!!! And believe me... Looie knows ALL about Brooklyn!!;D

I gotta fine the results somewhere...
Close buddy of mine was in the race.
Guy named Dusty Williams who ran in the first race. When I was a race official, he raced with us in the PARTS Pro Truck series. It was a traveling race series. About 8 states, and 18 races a year. Sometimes we'd have 75 guys show up to make a 30 truck field.
Anyway it has produced a few drivers that moved on up. Kellie Sutton on the CTS is one.
Dusty is a heck of a nice guy, and deserves a legimate shot at moving up. He ran in the top 3 all last night, and when they took the break at lap 75 his car was loose (they tightened up the car and went WAY too far.) He fell back the last 50 laps, and all I know is he finished outside the top 10. Shame,.. he deserved a better finish than that, and could of even won.
Also gotta find out how Scott Gaylord did.
When I had my own business printing various stuff, I made a couple batches of "Hero" cards for him. He's a heck of a nice guy also.

Irwindale...just how close IS that to that there Sandy Eggo that Shocky was mentioning...I MIGHT just be in the Sandy Eggo area, or maybe even the Lost Angels area, in December...who knows...but I'll be expecting a trucker escort to the nearest racetrack on Saturday nights...I got a taste for dirt track racing especially in the midwest at I-80 Speedway, and Pevely...but I want an ESCORT...preferably with ALL your best single male friends in attendance...all preferably with no major Sampsonite...I travel light, you know...
Oh, and Shocky?? Anything you can do to "stablilize" the area (I love thunderstorms, the jury is still out on earthquakes!!!) would be appreciated...want the left coast to be EXACTLY the same when I leave, especially geographically speaking, as it is when I arrive...90% probability Busch Babe touchdown in December...
Yo Habla Espaniol??? (O-kay, so you're lucky I know how to say THAT much Spanish...spelling it is another thing...
)
Anyone seen my skirt?? It's been a CERRRRRAZZZZZYYYY week in the Baby Factory....

Here ya go Chris...
http://www.irwindalespeedway.com
Looks like the site is down at the moment tho....
Hey BB - Irwindale Speedway is actually only about 16 miles east of downtown L.A. Here's a mapquest link...
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=internal&addtohistory=&latitude=TADpyZN3gLksujwnqSCdcA%3d%3d&longitude=Po5a%2fA59Fo72csF91r%2fQzg%3d%3d&name=Irwindale%20Speedway&country=US&address=500%20Speedway%20Dr&city=Irwindale&state=CA&zipcode=91706&phone=626%2d358%2d1100&spurl=0&&q=irwindale%20speedway&qc=Race%20Tracks
Zoom out to see the closeness of the 605 and the 210.
Click the "Aerial Picture" tab in the upper right corner of the map and see a cool aerial picture. This one is pretty cool. You can see the pits on the left end (turns 1 & 2), The dragstrip running along the lower edge. A go-kart track near the red star (if the star shows for you) They do "drifting" events there too... They cannot expand very easily tho.... That area at the bottom of the track is a gavel pit which would be a great acquisition except for the fact the gravel pit is about 40 - 50 feet lower than the dragstrip. It would required many many cubic yards of fill and just as many cubic yards of money...
From San Diego - irwindale Speedway is about 1 1/2 hours north (depending on traffic, of course...).
As far as shaking goes... I have not felt an earthquake for years.... (In San Diego anyways)
I'd say that chances are pretty good, 99% anyways, that Cali will be fine while you're here BB. I cannot guarantee 100% because "Mother Nature" and "Mother Earth" always win no matter what game they're playing...

Your wish is my command B.Babe.
I'll have all my best single male friends all lined up for you according to their respective ages ---- youngest on the left ---- oldest on the right.
Sixty-five years old and up ---- or down, as the case may be.
As for baggage, how much room do Depends require?
Truck escort?
How about a MONSTER truck escort? Have you ever attended a MONSTER truck show??
After riding in one, I can well appreciate what it takes to drive one ---- however, I've never flown in one like the drivers do.
How 'bout dirt racin'? That's even closer than Irwindale. Outlaws. Out in Riverside County ---- in the desert = warm.
Canadians welcome.
Even desired.
But, be advised. If you see me, I'll tell you, I'll gladly repay you tomorrow for an ice cold beer today.
(Small beer please. It don't take much for me.
)
