In a recent article with reference to Sunday's Martinsville race, Casey Mears addressed his concerns regarding Ryan Newman's behaviour and rookie David Gilliland.
[Newman] was kind of holding everyone up. When I got up to him, he tried to park me in the center of the corner. [He] just got on the breaks and I got into the back of him. Got him a little loose. He didn't wreck, but he came around the next lap and wrecked me.
"Pretty small minded and ignorant, really."
"I think [he] is having a bad year and taking it out on everybody, when he has had a bad day."
Mears was also angered when spun out by rookie David Gilliland on Lap 460. Mears was then running 3rd at the time. Mears wasn't as vocal about Gilliland, other than to say "he had a lot to learn."
Would like your comments on this incident.

I think it's a mixture of thing's really. I do believe that R.Newman is getting frustraded and then having to start in the back wouldn't help much. When it comes to C.Mears I think that he is already having next year's attitude. He drives for Hendrick now and that means if you touch me I will TELL.
HE IS PART OF THE WHINERS CLUB NOW
. This is just my opinion, But I don't think that I am to far off.

Ooooops...I believe I just knicked a paintchip
...from my perspective Ryan Newman has to take much of the blame for that incident or NASCAR would not have "black flagged him sending him to the back, additionally, to warning Casey Mears on the matter of trading paint chips." (Realizing Home Depot can match up your team colours...
) I'm a fan of HMS, Rick Hendrick has done so much for the NASCAR sport, although JG is the biggest whiner and even admitted it publicly on "Wind Tunnel." I'm also a big fan of Jimmie Johnson's, another one who admits publicly of his mistakes and works hard to avoid them happening again. When you look at the entire picture, not just the frame, I do believe it has to be difficult for JJ with JG lurking in the shadows. I was listening to #48 in-car radio regarding passing #24, although JJ had the best car, he wasn't certain #24 would let him pass. JG can be his own worst enemy.
Sorry for rambling...yes, on the subject of Casey Mears vs Ryan Newman (Newman) does have attitude. I don't believe that Casey was whining about this incident, he was only being honest. Just my opinion...

I think the whole thing was Newmans fault. That's what I meant. He is having a frustrating year and him starting last at Martinsville didn't help matter's. I was just saying that about Mears because I am not a fan of his or Hendrick Motorsports. I guess what I am trying to say is that I have heard Mears whine in the past so I was just putting the shoe on the foot because it fit's. By the way WELCOME to Frontstretch. They call me Flame

Appreciate the welcome, Flame...nice to be on board! Thank you for providing clarification. I'm new to the world of NASCAR, only began watching the races in May (following poking and prodding by friends). I do remember Davey Allison, Rick Mears, Cal Yarborough, Earnhardt Sr., and several others.

Welcome Cangal...
Glad to have you on board...
I been following Nascar very closely since the early 70's, been to probably about 150 CUP races,.. but counting BGN and CTS races. ALso worked on a CTS team, and been a local and traveling short track official for 15 years...
As you can see I have a passion for the sport... LOL
As far as the Newman and Mears,... I think many of these things are more than they appear to be.
IMO I think it is more of a matter of Newmans poor season than anything. Needless to say Newman was
GLAD
to get rid of Rusty as a teammate,.. and looked forward to the 2006 season. Things haven't panned out as he hoped,.. and it's showing in his driving.
Newman starting in the rear that weekend wasn't good and he had to work hard to stay on the lead lap right from the beginning.
Looked like he and Mears cars were pretty equal,.. and SInce mears car was in front of him,.. he wanted to find a way by.
First he it him,.. then when they got side-by-side on the straight Newman moved down quite a way on the straight and give hit a pretty got hit to show him he was unhappy with Mears. Then he spun him out.
No wonder Nascar put him in the rear.
From what I saw,.. yeah... looked to be a case of plain old impatience to me... lucky he didn't spend a few laps in the "penalty box" as far as I am concerned...

Great, thnks to everyone, will probably need clarification from time to time. I have to thank my local library, it's been as I have been reading some excellent books, in an attempt to bring me up to "speed" (pardon the pun). The statistical information is very important, especially throughout the course of the CHASE, which I find highly energizing.
I'm thankful my comfy chair isn't human, otherwise it would have been mutilated by now.
