I have what we call DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and no matter how many time's I go back and watch the Replay of the Flying DEBRI It keeps coming from around R.Gordon's car. And just for the RECORD "I DID NOT SAY HE IS RESPONSIBLE". The debri is going forward and coming from the middle of the car.The one thing that I will say is that I have never seen Roll Bar Padding weigh enough to fly passed a race car. He said that it must have came from another car in front of him. I AGREE 100% with J.Burton. If a driver is caught doing something like this their should be a $100,000 fine,185 points deducted. I think they should add a suspension, Maybe 1 or 2 races. This does sound a little HARSH, But someone doing something STUPID like this could Determine the outcome of the Championship. I hope Nascar checked every car in the garage. I would have checked every car before they left post-race inspection.

ahhh.. but every car don't go through post race inspection...
I'm trying to remember right now,....
This may be wrong.. and I'm not sure. Maybe RG will chime in.
But it seems like it's just the top 5,.. the pole sitter,.. and one 'finish position' drawn at random after the race starts.??

I thought every car had to stop on pit road to have a spoiler check. Or did they quit doing that?If they still do this then I would just told them to shut the cars off and everyone get out so that they could check them. That's what I meant. I had a brain Hiccup lastnight. I wasn't thinking what Post-Race inspection was. I knew it was the top 3 cars, and a random pick. I'm not sure about the pole sitter it very well could be. Regardless they could stop ALL of the cars on Pit Road if they wanted too.

uh,.. yeah they could stop all the cars on pit road,...
they would just have to relay a message to the spotters,.. and have the tell the drivers,.. then make sure they didn't run over each other as they come to the pits,...
I know what you are thinking about,.. about the spoiler check. I'm thinking that comes into play more at Daytona and Dega where they have a 'minimum' spoiler angle and they whip out that gauge...
I may be wrong,.. but I thing the spoiler
mainly
comes into play at the restrictor plate tracks,.. where they want to get it as low as possible (out of the air)... on all the other tracks,.. they need it for rear downforce, and grip.
hhuumm you got me thinking now,.. but I'm thinking I'm right,.. but I wouldn't bet money on it... LOL

NASCAR's John Darby, the Nextel Cup tour director, said his inspectors would go through the various team haulers checking race cars for missing roll-bar padding: "It was a very large piece of something black and round, and we don't know what it is when everybody is running at 190 mph. Now trying to prove whose it was is another story. But we'll be going through every car as they load them. But that's not to say it might not have been just under somebody's seat."(Winston Salem Journal)(10-30-2006)
Found the above comment on Jyaski
(unless i'm wrong about that too). I can see it now, During Pre-Race inspection the officals are going to have to check for EXTRA part's in hiding places. And before SOMEBODY corrects me, I know that they meant it could have been left behind while they were building the car. With the communication technoligy that Nascar has with the teams and drivers I see no reason why they couldn't have told the teams to have there driver stop on Pit-Road at the conclusion of the race. The caution came out on lap 292 and was out until lap 295 so there was enough time to do this. If nothing else then Nascar could have had the Pit-Road officials go to the garage or to the haulers and check every car.The more I sit here and think about it, Maybe Nascar didn't want to know where the Roll-Bar Padding came from. We all know how Nascar LOVES the 24,48,8 and so on. If Nascar seen J.Burton passing alot of cars getting VALUBLE points then who's to say that Nascar didn't have someone throw a CHUNK of padding for them. Granted I don't THINK that Nascar would stoop this low, But I am begining to wonder how far they would go to have a NASCAR STAR win the Championship.

NASCAR called for a caution about 35 laps from the finish of Sunday's race because a piece of roll bar padding was on the track. The timing of the caution severely hurt Jeff Burton, who was a lap down because of an earlier incident and needed the field to run through a final round of green-flag cautions to catch up.
Gordon, meanwhile, benefited from the caution because he was the first car not on the lead lap. That gave him NASCAR's "free pass" to get back on the lead lap, and he wound up finishing 10th.
Found the above two comments on another website right after I made my last post. I guess this pretty much sums it up.

This is
close
to the point I have been saying ever since they come up with this silly chase crap... and why I have been against it from the start.
I've never 'really' believed it was about getting TV ratings up,.. it was more about "
Control
"
Look at it this way,.. and expand the example you pointed out...
Always before we ran 36 races and Nascar had little control who the eventual champion was. In general the best team won. (as it should be,.. Nascar don't need to "control" anything,.. it should be about RACING, and the BEST team.
NOW,.. they throw out the points for the first 26 races and virtually start back at square one. Now things are close enough that Nascar CAN control the outcome of the races,.. who gets a lucky dog pass, who DOESN'T, who gets a lap back and not (ie Burton this weekend)... who can have to make a pit stop for a flat,.. and lose a couple laps in the pits,.. then a mysterious 'debris' yellow comes out trapping that driver a couple laps down ruining his day.
Nascar has
TOTAL
control,.. mostly because they have control of when the yellow flag falls.
Not to mention they can penalize teams, and determine by HOW MUCH.
SO Nascar CAN control who wins the championship,.. and I suspect they will... oh so innocently.

Indeed he did!
But ya gotta have a little sympathy for poor, suffering Robby. Uncle Mikey will toss that ol' yellow rag whenever "June Bug" needs it. Other drivers with large followings have also seemed to get favorable rulings from the sanctioning body over the years. Lesser drivers, with fewer fans in the stands and in front of the TV, have to make their own luck.
If NA$CAR investigates that caution, I want to see the "debris" they picked up back on lap 82, as well as an investigation of how that caution got called.

If Jeff Burton hadn't hit the wall by himself and flattened his own tire, he wouldn't have had to pit early, and that caution would have benefitted him as much as it did everyone else.
On the other hand, he missed the big wreck because of where he was on the track, so maybe it did benefit him more than he knows. He had been running somewhere behind Clint Bowyer, who was caught up in the wreck.
Robby's not the first to throw something out of the car - if they caught him during the race, it would have been right to penalize him, as others have been. Since they didn't - too bad, so sad - he got away with it. Anything else is just a witch hunt. (and no pun was intended, even though this is Halloween)

Well CF,.. I can see both sides of this...
In the case of Jr spinning on purpose at Bristol on purpose (which is "kinda sorta the same thing).... a way to bring out a yellow when you need it...
In any event Nascar found out about that AFTER the fact,.. and he got penalized 25 point mid-week, (don't remember if he got a fine right now)
NOW it reported that NASCAR is still looking into this incident,.. and with then video NBC has it may make a ruling,.. also some more video may come from somewhere.??
SO it may be over and it may not.
I COULD see Gordon getting penalized yet if Nascar was to find some evidence that they felt proved he DID throw the padding,.. and probably a fine.
ON the other hand,.. NEXTEL may give him a reward for helping Burton stay a lap down... ROFLOL

I just watched the end of the race from Atlanta. Sunday night I was busy and I missed the final 50 Lap's. Granted it was Recorded I just got around to watching it. Sunday I kept going back to watch the Roll Bar padding fly out of R.Gordons window. I had know idea how much he GAINED by that last caution. #1.He was the lucky dog. #2.He finished 10th. If he did throw the padding then he does not belong in Nascar or any other racing for that matter. It would be safe to say that we will never know if he did it or not. All of that for a 10th place finish, Give me a BREAK.

Oh now I wouldn't go
THAT
far...
this is a
common
trick drivers use... it's been going on for
years
.
roll bar padding, drivers gloves, various little stuff they may stuff under the seat before the race that would never hurt anyone,.. but could be something 'questionable' from the tower that would bring out a yellow...
