Terry Labonte retires this weekend. He is one of the classiest drivers ever in NASCAR. It will be sad to see him walk away from the sport.

I ECHO YOUR SENTIMENTS...I believe he is being presented with an award for his dedication to the sport at Texas Speedway this weekend. Another "PROFESSIONAL" and "DIPLOMATIC" drive heads off to retirement. Young drivers take note..."this is a CLASS ACT."

Terry's always been a class act.
When we raced the CTS,.. I always tried to make my way by his pits,.. just to say hi. He always seemed to be positive and upbeat, and hardly ever saw him get upset.
A good role model for anyone.

Oh sorry...
CTS = Craftsman Truck Series
IF you BGN,.. thats Busch Grand National Series
You'll find we use a LOT of abbreviations around here...
I think we write so much we just shorten everything and hope everyone can keep up... LOL
We even got to the point where we shorten everyone Screen name... (I guess you saw that already...)
FlameHotHead.. is now known as FHH
KurtsGirl is KG
You'll probably end up being known as CG48... ?? hehehe
If you have any questions.. just ask.... always glad to have you...
And welcome aboard

Thks. guys...yes, now that I reflect makes sense!!!! They say when you reach your pre-senior years you begin a steady downward spiral...I should reinvest in that DNA course I never finished...LOL
Thks again for the warm welcome, I'm having fun!!!!! Since I don't have a crew chief to direct me on the "track of life"...all I can say is...either I was too loose on the entry into Turn 1 or my rear was swaying coming into the pits!!!...LOL

I am sure everyone remembers when T.Labonte had his 500th career start and if I remember right the Paint Scheme was Silver and they called him THE IRON man. For some reason I have called him that ever since that day. I HATE seeing another Old-School driver leave the sport. I will never forget the Famous Race at Bristol when D.Earnhardt rattled his cage
. I remember the look on his face when they were talking to him after it happened. The thing about it is that he didn't really get mad or at least his actions didn't show it. Maybe that is where he got his other Nickname The Iceman. Before long all of the Old-School drivers will be gone and I am not looking forward to that day.

yeah.. I know what you mean..
Right now we are going through a phase when we had several guys come into the sport about the same time,.. and looks like they'll all be leaving about the same time.
Far as I can see in the next few years these drivers will be retiring:
Mark Martin, Sterling Marlin, Ken Schrader, Jeff Burton, Bobby Labonte, Dale Jarrett, Kyle Petty, Bill Elliott
And when those retire,.. you'll see them closely follow by guys like Mikey Waltrip, Mayfield, etc
SO over the next few years,.. you're gonna see a fairly extensive list of drivers retire (some may go into 'partial' retirement like Elliott, Labonte and Martin first)
ON THE GOOD side,... we got so many young guys now,.. by the time these above guys leave,.. they're gonna seem like old timers (we're gonna be "used" to seeing the race) and then there will be "NEW" new guys. I've been watching racing for over 30 years, and this is just the normal ebb and flow of drivers.

They had an article in NASCAR Scene Daily. Terry said that everyone thought he was so calm after that bump by Earnhardt. He went towards Victory Lane and had his car poised so he could t-bone EArnhardt's car by backing into it. He said just as he was ready to hit Earnhartdt's car, the transmission went out....probably keeping him from getting a fine. Thought that was pretty cool

Personally,
I'm glad to see Terry retire. Time to celebrate! Bring on the bubbly and pour till there ain't no more. No place for sorrow here folks.
Any time an individual can be involved in something they love for a career, and that career takes them to the top and sets them up to be financially secure and very comfortable...............
And to remain in the top series for what? Twenty-five --- twenty-seven years now? Total driving is around 44 years. Have the respect of fellow competitors and fans......
Retires
Just walks away..................
Fifty-years young enough to enjoy the fruits of his labors while in good health.
RIGHT--ON TERRY!!
Thanx for the memories!
We'll miss seeing you on the track, but you'll still be on our minds ----- for a long, long time.
This isn't "good-bye Terry".
I think it's more like Good JOB Terry!
See you around........................
