I happened to catch some of the opening of the CMA show last night.  I was once a big country music fan, but then everyone jumped on the band wagon (not much pun intended) and I found my appreciation waning.  Then it went off like a Bud can off the back of my head...ain't that what's happened to me and NASCAR?  Too many crossovers, too much glamor and not enough real life.  Too many deserving aspirants being pushed aside for big names from other venues.  I reckon that's why I'll stick to Hooters, local short track racing.  I much prefer the entertainment in racing to be racing and country music to be someone who can sing "An Momma got run over by a damned ol' train" and do it with feeling.

Heh, heh, heh.  Oh yeah, cowboy.  THAT's why you follow the Hooters series.

And I bet you read Playboy for the articles, right?   Grin

I also USED to listen to Country Music, But everyone is singing POP music not Country. I may be 34 year's old but I love to listen to Johnny Cash,Buck Owen and other great's. And as for Nascar, Damn where do I start? I have some old races taped from the Early 90's. It is so cool to see the In-Car camera and there is no Head Rest to hold their head up when they go around the turn's. As a matter of fact there is NOTHING inside the car and I mean the driver could turn his head and look out of the right side window. I wish I knew then what I know now, Because I would have appreciated Nascar alot more back then. Today's Nascar is all about MONEY and POLITICS thats it. I think that B.France need's to remember that without the fan's Nascar would be NOTHING. I will admit that I try to buy product's that sponsor Nascar as I am sure alot of people do and that's what the sponsor want's. If nobody buy's there product then they won't be on the side of a race car for long. I just had to add my 2 cent's worth. Nascar and Country Music used to go Hand in Hand.

"I was drunk the day my Ma got out of prison"

Now WHY does that make me think of that beady-eyed little weasel who used to wheel that 3 car?   Grin

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about modern country.  My parents were always listening to Johnny, Tammy, Loretta, Waylon, George Jones, Bobby Bare, et. al.  I remember walking to school and sing to myself that "I've been everywhere man" or "Don't take her she's all I got."  I'm sorry, but now country isn't country.   Kid Rock having a #1 country hit!  You gotta be kidding me!  Uncle Cracker?  Makes me wanna puke.  The one thing they have done right is quit playing those darned commie Dixie Chicks, though.  Actually, I'm just guessing on that one cuz I quit listening to anything but my old tunes about two years ago.

At 44 I've become an old fogie, I suppose.  Old country and classic rock for me.  I do like John Mayer ok.  I bought that for the wife and ended up liking it myself.  That is kinda funny for me because the worst thing in music for me is all these girls who are Mariah wannabes.  Ewww.  They have to show you how talented they are by making their voice go all over the place.  Tell me, what's wrong with holding a note for more than half a second?  I'll take "I never promised you a rose garden" any day over 99% of what they call music today.

Ok, I probably alienated half of you with my opinions, but their my opinions and I'm fine with em, lol.

Shux Howdy ---- I have the solution!

Do what I did,...........quit listening to music,
read it instead. Makes a big difference without all that noise
in the background.

Then, listen to books ---- on tape.
180 degrees off and that works for me. Tongue Wink Cheesy

Oh Yeah!  I love books on tape.  I've listened to about a hundred of em.  Gotta be unabridged though.  The library has a ton to choose from.

Now, now smyler.  As Fredrick the Great once said of the military writings of his day, "There are some diamonds in that dung heap."

Have you heard Martina McBride's "Timeless" album?

Good point.  I'm not throwing out the whole ball of wax, but there sure are some clinkers in there as well.  Let's put it this way, I love 90% of what they put on the Grand Ole Opry.  The point was that today's country is more pop than country.  There are still some good songs out there, of course.  Brad Paisley, George Strait, etc., good stuff.  Thinking of this is kinda funny.  I mean, in the 70's all I listened to was pop music, practically.  In the early 90's I migrated back to country because pop had become too urban for my taste.  Then in the last few years pop invaded the country charts.

I guess what I'm thinking is that when I want pop I should have to find a pop station.  When I want country I should be able to find it on a country station.  Now they have blended country with pop and sometimes it's hard to find just country.  Thank God for the internet.  You can find real country stations there.

Didn't you know, Country has become the New Rock. A lot of what they play on "country" stations  isn't anything close to being country.

And Rock has become trash for the most part (ok, 50% of it ) Roll Eyes
