OK.  I give, Chris.  I'm cheatin'.

A good friend gave me a great book called "NA$CAR Chronicle" by Greg Fielden (actually, he gave me the book and a bottle of "South Virginia Spring Water," but that's another story).

Back in '57, there was a racer named Roy Tyner, a Lumbee Indian from Red Springs, NC known as “the Flying Indian.”  Is that our Roy?

well.. I've teased you all long enough I guess...
Rapid Roy... was

Roy Hall... CUP Racer out of Atlanta GA.
When they had the initial induction ceremonies for "Thunder Road" (The Georgia Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame) Roy Hall was one of those inducted that first year.
He, Bill Elliott, Red Voigt, Raymond Parks (first multicar team owner), Tim Flock, Gober Sosebee,..... hhuummm trying to remember who else....
Seems like there was eight that first year....
Maybe Lloyd Seay, and Red Byron, but I wouldn't bet on that last one.
Anyway,.. the induction ceremony was pretty cool.. A big feast,.. fancy get up, dress up affair,.. all BLACK TIE deal.  Got to wear my tux and dress up for the big shin-dig.
Hold on I'll be back with some pics...
##################
Well the site is messed up again,.. won't let me load up one pic... all are below the rquire minimum... I'll check with Ren and see what the deal is...
The one pic below is Bill Elliott at the ribbon cutting and the grand opening and start of the first induction ceremonies for Thunder Road.  Even though it was a black tie affair, you'll see Bill is his own man,... just a good ol' country boy.  Came in his pull over shirt, and a pair of courdaroy pants.   LOL.
If I can get them loaded I got a pic of me and him,.. and also a pic of Roy Parks.

HEY.. thanks for the link,... everyone should take a minute to read it.
That Lloyd Seay was quite the driver.  I got some pics of his race car,.. it was a real sweet looking ride for it's day...  I'll have to see if I can get one to upload.
Story is, if Seay hadn't of got killed over that moonshine (sugar) deal he would of been the FIRST CUP champion from Dawsonville.  He was just THAT good.

Little inside bit of info,... Dad grew up in Dawsonville (thats how I'm related to Bill)
Anyway grand-dad was know to brew up some corn squeezin's.  The boys often made the run to Atlanta with the shine grand-dad cooked.  Not sure how the story goes who got it once he made it, and who exactly run it where it went... All I know is he made it,.. and some of the better runners made the runs.

I've always liked that song - it's fun to sing, but always wondered if there was a real "Rapid Roy,"  now I know.

That's an interesting article from the website falcon posted.

As for moonshine - brings back a memory from the one and only time I drank 'shine!  It was late summer 1979 at Aunt Minnie's Farm in Stumptown, WV - Blue Grass Festival - Holy Cow, I didn't know something could burn that much!!! No more 'shine for me - I'll stick to Michelob Ultra - smooth!

>>Holy Cow, I didn't know something could burn that much!!! No more 'shine for me<<

LOL.  My first experience with moonshine was at a friend's wedding in rural North Kacalacky.  Several of the groomsmen were from New Yawk and, at a fish fry in the groom's honor, the High Sherrif of the county heard the city boys had never tried 'shine.  He hopped in his patrol car and roared off.  Twenty minutes later he was back with a mason jar full of the nastiest, vilest stuff I have ever had in my mouth.  Some of us suspected he decided to teach us a lesson and brought back some turpentine laced with skunk urine.  But he sure didn't do anything to increase the demand for THAT home-grown product!    Cheesy

Lloyd Seay was  probably on the first racing team.  The car owner was Raymond Parks and the other driver was Roy Hall.  All three were cousins and the mechanic was Red Vogt.  All three cousins were from Dawsonville.  Raymond parks owned Hempill Service Station and Parks Novelty Machine co at that time.

Parks started working on the stills at 14 years old and bought the service station from his uncle while still in his teens.

Parks was part of the organizational meeting that formed Nascar.

You are 100% right PaulFan...
People look at Rick Hendrick as the first (or first successful) multi-car race team owner.
He was YEARS behind the first
Ol' Raymond Parks had him beat by a mile.  Dad grew up with him right there is Dawsonville.  Raymond is a class act, and I was glad I got to be there to see him get into the Ga Racing Hall of Fame.
