Yeah,.. His name was Bill Broderick... He was with Nascar for YEARS
He was in charge of "the Hat Dance"... keeping up with the organized chaos.
In victory lane he was the guy that kept up with making sure the winner made pictures with all the appriopriate caps.
All the winners get a pics make with every associate sponsor on the car (the little decals on the side of the car)... also their Major sponsors, the race sponsors, and any other sponsors Nascar sees fit.  It's quite a list.
After the race goes off the air,... the driver and crew has to take pictures for (often) more than an hour.... (same picture, everyone smile and act happy, hold up one finger - not that finger - )... OK change caps,.. now lets do the same thing again.
Thats what Bill was in charge of.  He was the first guy a driver saw when he pulled into victory lane.

NOW as far as WHAT he's doing now,... I have no clue,... but just figured I'd fill in some new folks what all went on and what he did while he WAS 'The Hat Guy"

I hope he's able to find a ride and a competitive one too. Not one that's going to finish in the 30's.

I hope he's able to find a ride that's fast enough to get him into the daytona 500.

I found this for ya Bryan.

Geoff Bodine Daytona 500 deal falls thru: Geoff Bodine said Wednesday [Dec 13th] he hasn't been able to find a team to run a car in February's Daytona 500 Nextel Cup race. Bodine, who has been in retirement for the past season or so, said in November he has a sponsor -- energy drink Mona Vie -- that wants to put him in a car during NASCAR's season-opening Cup race. "It's the hardest thing to find a Cup car and team to do it, so I've pretty much written off a Cup deal," Bodine said. "I'm going to try and pursue another angle." Geoff said he's exploring rides in the other series running at Daytona, along with non-race options. "I'm looking to try to get something so I can to be there at Daytona," Bodine said. Bodine will travel to Lake Placid, N.Y., this weekend to watch the World Cup Bobsled event and make some runs of his own on the bobsled track with his NASCAR sled. From Jan. 5 to 7, Bodine will host the second annual Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge at the Verizon Sports Complex, an event to help raise money for the U.S. Olympic Bobsled team, which uses Bo-Dyn sleds developed through Bodine.

I was wondering about Shane Hmiel.

Apparently, his USAC chances dried up when NA$CAR banned him.  Not a surprise, I suppose.  Nobody wants a three-time loser out there on the track where people can get hurt.

I found one chat-board post alledging that the young man is working construction.  Nothing wrong with that; it's an honest living.  Hope the kid can turn his life around.

I spoke with a good source. Shane has a lifetime ban from NASCAR and is no longer driving for anyone. He is working construction. So sad. He had such potential. I hope he gets the help he needs. Addiction is a difficult demon to overcome.

Lyndon Amick is a poor little rich boy who tried racing and couldn't quite make it.

But now, he's signed up for the National Guard, and we all know what that means.  I hope God watches over him and he gets another shot turnin' left for a living.

Your good source is not so good .

First despite reports to the contrary Shanes ban is called indefinite by Nascar not lifetime . What is the diff ? I think somewhere way down the road he can apply for reinstatement  Shane is not working construction he has been employed by DEI for some time now working at the shop . Shane did make one USAC start and finished 7th but with the third positive drug test in Nascar he resigned his position with the team .
