Toyota Over Spending?....One fear is that Toyota will spend its way to domination in the sport [NASCAR], raising costs for everybody and perhaps eventually running off an ailing domestic manufacturer. Officials at Ford, which has struggled financially while sales of Toyota’s have gained greater share in the United States, have been most vocal in their criticism. Dan Davis, director of Ford Racing Technology, said his manufacturer’s NASCAR operation is financially sound. But he said Toyota’s spending spree in acquiring crew chiefs, drivers, engineers, tire changers and other support personnel has affected his teams. That includes Robert Yates Racing, which lost Jarrett and his UPS sponsorship [#44 Toyota]. “I think they have been predators, and people would say that might be extremely negative,” Davis said. “I would say that in the business world, people are predators. That’s how you get things done. When anything new comes in with a lot of resources, then those entities are going to try to acquire the best people, the best equipment, the best that they can get. That’s a bit predatory to me. And if you pay people more money than they were getting and you entice them other ways, in a way that’s more than normal, then it’s a bit predatory.” Team Red Bull has been accused of paying 200 to 300% more to hire John Probst, a top Ford engineer. Davis said he heard that Michael Waltrip Racing came up with more than $20 million to lure Jarrett, the 1999 Cup points champion and a favorite among longtime Southern race fans, away from the Yates team. Salaries are a closely held secret throughout NASCAR, and Michael Waltrip Racing officials have denied those figures. Davis said he voiced his concerns privately with NASCAR. So far, NASCAR officials say they see this as business as usual in a sport in which teams openly raid competitors. Earlier this month, for instance, Roush Racing [#26 Ford] hired the crew chief Larry Carter away from Michael Waltrip Racing [#00 Toyota].

I found this on Jayski.com.The thing I can't understand is why B.France doesn't slow everything down before it get's outta hand. We all know that it takes money to go fast but they are taking it a step further and hiring Top Notch guys from other Teams and in turn hurting them. Example: If they go to HMS and hire/buy all of their Crew Chiefs, The best engine guys, The best body guys, The best pit crew then that team will STRUGGLE until it finds or teaches new people. I am not downing Ford but they are having it tough right now even though there sales are looking good. I would not be afraid to say that Toyota will be the top team by Mid-Season. You can't tell me that they have just done there Homework cause I don't believe it. They are Buying there way into Nascar and thats the ____ Bottom line. If we all think that the Nascar fan base is gettin low then just wait until Toyota wins a Championship or a Manufactor Championship. Then all of the Old-Schoolers will stop watching Nascar. I am talking about the ones who have been in the articles saying that Nascar is an American sport. Please no hate mail, I'm not for/against Toyota I just want to watch this all unfold.

Have you seen the Tundra commercials lately?

Engines with over 400 pounds feet of torque, a SIX speed automatic transmission, bigger brakes, larger rear end ring gear, huge trailer hitches, ...............

Looks like Toyota has plans of taking over the pick-up truck market too.
It'll be hard to ignore equipment like that.
Is Toyota building a better mouse trap?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
Watch for an announcement that the Brian is selling NA$CAR to the Land Of The Rising Sun, as a turn-key opperation.

I think that with so many fans being of the new variety that there will not be the back lash against Toyota that some of the older fans might kind of hope for.  It is easy to understand the resentment when you see a foreign car company come in and dominate where only domestic players were before.

Obviously the world is changing.  Japan is a world power whether we like it or not.  We can either change with the tide or we can fight the tide.  I'm not taking one side or the other here, but it is easy to see that things will never be as they were before.  I will say that I look forward to seeing if what we think is going to happen does indeed come to pass this year.

Hell that's all part of the Global Free-Trade Pact our North American Governments agreed upon...the Ford Trucks that were being built in Oakville Ont. are now being built in Mexico , the Chevrolet Monte-Carlo's that were built in Flint Michigan are now built in Missasauga Ontairo. Toyota Cars are being built in Kentucky and Trucks are being built in London Ontairo also..... so go figure..I Don't think the Japenese will loose out in the long run..though..Smyler..your right on ..there !

I will admit there Truck's are pretty nice but I'm 100% AMERICAN MADE BABY. I'm just not sure that Nascar didn't make a mistake by doing something but I'm not sure what. I know there is no law against having money and buying anything/everything you want but damn it's gonna be the Toyota show watch and see.

As bad as I hate to say it, I hope your sooooooo wrong Aftershock. If this happens then Nascar as we know it will be GONE FOREVER. And if it does happen then I hope it takes a long time for it to happen.

And isn't buying the best of everything how we got the Jeff Gordon show? And the Jack Roush show? Why is it so much worse somehow when it's a manufacturer doing it and benefiting, one would assume, far more drivers?

PS - There is no 100 percent American-made in cars. In fact, Ford sending work from NY to China almost cost my dad his job. And it was new orders from I think Mitsubishi that saved it. So I've thankfully got no romanticised attachment to the long-byegone days when that phrase, American-made, actually meant what it said.

As far as I know Nascar is going to put a cap on how many cars a person can own. I guess I need to say it like this, I PERSONALY don't like to see a Manufacturer come in and buy up everything. To be HONEST with you I HATE TOYOTA, NISSAN, MAZDA and every other IMPORT car in this world but I cannot control what Nascar decides to do. I was just saying that I THINK Nascar could have put some type of cap or anything to not let them take over the sport when they roll out at Daytona.

As for 100% American, I agree there isn't a car on the road today that is 100% American made but I'm sure everyone else got what I was trying to say. My Father-In-Law retired from Ford so your not telling me anything. At least a Ford or Chevy has more American parts than a Toyota and that was my point.

hhuummm
Maybe I'm an oddity here...
I AM a long LONG time Nascar fan... but rather than being 'against' Toyota, Honta, Nissan coming into Nascar,.. I kinda look forward to it.
Just kinda something new and different.

As far as Toyota "buying" up everthing... I don't see it that way.  When Dodge can back into CUP racing,.. seems they did prety much the same thing.  Isn't that how Ray Evernham got to the Dodge camp??  Dodge didn't do anything different than Toyota is doing.
Only problem now is,.. Dodge was an "American" made car company doing it,... so it was OK... Toyota is a "foreign" company so they are catching flack over it.  I see it as whats OK for one is OK for the other.

Know what the funniest thing to me is about all this?  Dodge is owned by the Germans! Everyone seems to forget that. We've had a foreign car in NASCAR for years, if you go by who owns the company! Bottom line is that NASCAR rules state that the car in competition has to be manufactured in the US (paraphrased).

There is a reason Camry out sells Ford and Chevy every year. Myself, I'm a GM man, but I am also shrewd. I want the best quality for my dollar. If that be a Camry vs. an Impala, well so be it. Im not going to be so stubborn as to be stupid.

And, when it comes to NASCAR, ESPECIALLY NASCAR nowdays, the only difference in the cars is the stupid grill openings and which decal they slap on the darn thing.

Look at the billions of specs NASCAR has for this and that right down to expiration dates on seat belts etc. There IS NO INDIVIDUALITY AMONG THE MANUFACTURERS!

Even the old song and dance about "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" is NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!   Chevrolet accidently invalidated that argument last year when they announced that the Impala was replacing the Monte Carlo on the race track! The reason? Impala has now surpassed Monte Carlo as Chevy's best selling car!  When was the last time you saw an Impala on the NASCAR circuit? (Good trivia ? right there!)
Seems that now the new mantra is "What Sells on Monday, Will race on Sunday!"

You could put a Beemer, a Austin-Healy and a Volkswagon in a NASCAR race for all I care. You would never be able to tell the difference if they didnt have the decals on them anyway!

And whats that I read somewhere earlier? No IROC at Daytona?! Don't be stupid!!!! Of course there is! Its called the DAYTONA 500!

I know Dodge did the same thing in the past and I felt the same way then and I will feel that way if someone does it in the future also and it doesn't matter if it's an American made car or an Import it shouldn't happen. Nascar say's they are trying to lower the cost of racing but it sure doesn't look like they are doing a good job of it. I guess my whole point is this, I finally figured how I want to say it. How can they keep the cost of racing down when team's like M.Waltrip racing are building scaled down Disneyland's at their race shop's. How about team's like Wood Bros racing or even RYR, They can't begin to compete with these guy's.

Like I have said before, I am not a fan of Import vehicles never have and never will. This is MY OPINION and I have a right to it. Am I picking on Toyota just because they are an Import Co, I would say yeah but that's just how I feel. I'm not gonna apologize for the way I feel but if I have offened anyone then I am Sorry.

Somebody stop me if I start a post like this again PLEASE. I didn't know I was going to Ganged up on and called stupid(if that was directed toward me) and who know's what is yet to come and it all happens on my B-Day LOL. I'm kidding, I know it's just a discussion.
