: One of the oldest race tracks in Illinois gets new life with new owners. Macon Speedway revealed the new ownership team Sunday as part of the Racing Expo at the State Fairgrounds. Past track owner-operator Macon's Bob Sargent and NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader make up the team. Racing on the dirt track ended ahead of schedule last season because of financial hard times. The track was built back in 1946 in Macon.

Look's like Nascar Drivers to the rescue again. I am glad to see anyone keep a local track open and it's not very often you see people like these three guy's doing it. The local short track near where I live is in prime realestate an I don't look for it to be around much longer. I often wonder if the people who own these track do it because they love racing or they love money. The BIG land developers come in and offer Millions of dollars to these track owners and they couldn't make as much as they offer in probably 2 or 3 years so they think why not. I think the majority of the generationg that is around now is more worried about shopping or fast food more than a little 3/10 mile race track being bulldozed so there Mall can be built. My In-Laws live way out in the country (they used too) and over the past 17 years the countryside has turned into a sub-division. The thing I want to know is where the wild animals supposed to go? People can't figure out why a deer found it's way into a Target store and I think to myself, Maybe it's because your New House is where he used ti live LOL. I know people have to have a place to live but it just kinda makes me sick to my stomach if ya know what I mean.
