I dunno Ty.  I could give ol' Michael a few good reasons: (1) no traction control, (2) passing ("overtaking" in his language) happens all the time, (3) no traction control, (4) trading paint (That's right, Michael.  Rubbin' IS racin'), and (5) no traction control.

All kidding aside, Michael has nothing to gain and everything to lose.  He comes to America and doesn't smoke the slack-jawed 'Murican yokels, and all those F-1 trophys will lose some of their gloss.  He gets sent back with his tail between his legs, and....

Besides, JPM has been careful to come in with a confident, yet quiet and respectful manner.  Herr Schumacher has already opened his pie-hole and burned his bridges.

Still, it would be kinda fun....

I hope ya don't mind Ty but I thought I would post the story from Jayski.com and here it is.

Evernham would hire Schumacher: If Michael Schumacher wants a ride in NASCAR, [#9, #10, #19 team owner] Ray Evernham has one waiting for him. Evernham, who works with German company DaimlerChrysler, has issued an open invitation to the seven-time Formula One champion to give stock car racing a try. The German driver retired from racing red Ferraris after the 2006 season. Asked recently about Juan Pablo Montoya leaving F1 to drive in NASCAR, Schumacher told The New York Times: "Personally, I wouldn't do it. What do you do in NASCAR? What is exciting there? I can't see that, running around on ovals." But Evernham would like him to reconsider. "I'll put him in a red car, a real good car, any time he wants to come over here and try it," he said. "A lot has changed in recent years. These cars are looked on as much more sophisticated than they used to be. I think he'd find them technical enough to keep him happy.

Something I read in here actually backs up what I say all the time. If ya read where Evernham say's, "I'll put him in a red car, A real good car". Is Evernham saying that he doesn't give all of his drivers Real Good Car's, It sure looks that way. One thing is For Sure, I sure as HELL wouldn't beg him to come over here and race and I'm a fan of Shumy. Ya know how I am always saying that in Nascar the car is 70% and the driver is 30%, Well over there it's more like the car is90% and the driver is 10% if he is any count at all.

On any given weekend there are maybe 5 contenders to win a race in F1.  In Cup, there are maybe 25 guys that can seriously contend for a win (fewer at road courses and restricter plate tracks).  The point being that he is a huge fish in a huge pond over there, but he'd start out as only a medium fish over here.  Things are much more competitive over here.   I don't see anyone coming in like Jeff did and win 10 plus races in a season any time soon.

MS wouldn't like the idea of just being one of the guys.  Keep in mind that he has more money than he could possibly spend, as it is.  Ray would have to pay him north of $50,000,000.00 to get his attention.  Do you really see that happening?

While I think 25 is giving far too much credit to the series, I do agree with you in general, Smyler.

Course, the whole thing seems moot, since the "news" item seems to be just Evernham wishing out loud. Man, green flag can't come fast enough...

Without trying to be too defensive, think about the list of entries into the race for this weekend.  Now look at where they race next.  Would you really be surprised if any one of the 3 drivers for Evernham, or the top 4 at Rousch or any of the 4 at HMS or Tony or Denny won?  That is 13 right there.  Now add the strong maybe drivers of Yates or Ganassi.  Maybe 25 is a bit strong, but 20 isn't.

The real point being that we do have much more competition and much more excitement than they do in F1.  I'm not saying it can't be thrilling to watch those cars stick to the track, going around those corners far faster than any stock car could, but after about 10 laps I say, well, that was cool... next!

For one thing, what is with these short races?  Our junior series last longer than theirs do.  It would be cooler if they had 500 mile (or maybe one 1000 KM) races, just to see how those cars stand up to the stress.  Pit stops would mean something.  How can you have events where you can get by with just one stop?  We really don't know if MS would last 4 hours in one event.  I suspect he would, but we'll never know.

IMO in F-1 the Winner is the guy who gets thru corner # 1 first.

He'd probably do fine in a Cup car. He would run people off the track and bump wheels all the time in F1. Would love to see Tony Stewart's reaction if Micheal parked his car on the track to interfere with his qualifying attempt like he did to Alonso in Monoco last year.

Him and Ralf come to the US in the off season and go to those cattle-drive dude ranch things like in "City Slickers". Seriously. They dress up like cowboys. They say the like it because they go into town and absolutley no one recognizes them.

I think Ray's got bigger things to worry about right now, with all 3 of his crew chiefs suspended....

I agree with you there Flame!

When I first had to start watching F1 for my previous job I thought Grand Prix was french for no passing LOL

Plus what would Schumacher do the first time his teammate wouldn't pull over and stop to let him win?

This is just distraction....I`m sure the press would eat this alive, and I`m sure Ray would provide the car as promised.
But the fact is that Schumacher has stated a few times that he has had a dislike of oval racing. Two seasons ago he even expressed worry at racing  at LeMans in a prototype. Not an oval, but he seems to focus on the safety of other racing besides F1.
Probably as an excuse. No need to ruin a legacy.
He enjoys his anonymous riding of his fleet of Harleys strategically placed all over the US too.
He has no wish for people in America to start recognizing him.

I have never been a fan his, BTW. I have more respect for racers that love to get in all types of racing.
