Well I know it's early but I thought I would start a Post where Everyone could talk about the Daytona 500. So far it's a BLOCKING race and not a whole lot more. I did hear Kurt Busch say that Stewart was out of hand but I'm still trying to find out what he is/was talking about. I'm guessing he doesn't like Stewart going high and then low but he could fix that problem if he would STOP driving like a Formula-1 driver. Honestly I can't believe that the 2 team actually sent one of the Crew guy's down to Stewarts pit's to see if they could calm him down LMFAO. As I type this Stewart has just taken the LEAD. YAHOOOOOO GO SMOKE. Sorry, Just a little EXCITED.

Wow....  Sorry about Tony....

Kurt thinks he was responsible but IMHO - he's not...

Tony's attention lapsed a little and he got that tire on the apron....  That's where it all started.

Not a whole lot Kurt could have done after that.  Not like he could have made a left hand turn to avoid Tony.  That would have caused the big one.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY . . .

When I go to casinos, the most ridiculous sign I see is the one that says:
"If you have a gambling problem, call 1-800-GAMBLER."

So, I call them and say,
"I have an ace and a six. The dealer has a seven. What do I do?"

What a race. Great job Kevin and team!!

As for the accident that took out by far the 2 best cars in the race, it sucked.  I know Kurt said it was his fault but it wasen't. Like Tony said his car just got real loose all of a sudden and well we know what the outcome was. It sucks but thats racing. I thought both guys gave real classy interviews.

I think it was one of the restrictor plate racin' deals too.  Tough break because I think they had two of the best cars out there.

As far as the ending, I see Mark's point about throwing the yellow as the accident was happening (and he was leading).  But I also see leaving them to race to the line because all of the trouble was well behind them.  But I'm sure quite a few people will see more controversy in the finish.

NASCAR made the right call to allow them to race to the line. It's the biggest race of the year and those fans that were there deserved to see that race end under green.

Well Smoke fans, take comfort in this little factoid....

The last time Tony finished 43rd in the Daytona 500- he won the championship that year!

I agree TF2. All the trouble was behind them. We get enough of the Green, White , Checker finishes. Too bad for Mark, I was pulling for him till Happy showed up.
And me being a Harvick fan..hehe I won't complain Grin
I did my little "Happy" dance all around the livingroom.  Cheesy Cheesy

haha true that. I'm not at all worried about him finishing last. He had an awesome car. And from watching his interview, he is the cool-calm-collected Tony that won the 05 Championship.

That was a tough call, but NASCAR blew it!

I understand not wanting to finish the race under yellow, but the cars behind the wreck needed a caution.

If you aren't going to throw cautions on the last lap drivers need to be made aware of it.  When drivers see a wreck ahead of them they need to know what they are expected to do.  Race back to the line, or slow it down as the field will be frozen?

But one heck of a dramatic finish.  Heartbreaker for Martin, but one sweet move on Harvick's part!

I am really glad they did not throw a caution like they have in every other circumstance.

Sincerely,

Clint Bowyer
Upside Down and On Fire

Having said that.......it's the biggest race on the plant, two guys door handle to door handle, no help from behind or ahead, racing to the checked flag on the last lap, it what will go down as one of the greatest finishes in the history of the Daytona 500.  Now if they would only remain CONSISTENT and do that for EVERY race.

I was glad to see the 07 car catch on the top edge of the side window and flop back on it's wheels right before it stopped it's slide.

Sure made it easier (and safer) for Clint to get out of that car on fire.

(Now somene needs to come up with an invention that will keep the fuel inside an upside-down carburetor...)

To tell yall the honest truth....when my hubby told me what happened with Kurt and Tony I half expected to come to the board to see Kurt Busch being griped at left and right.  It's nice to know that I'm here with other fans who have brains and will say what they saw.....not just what they wanted to see.  Thank you....all of you Smiley

The way I see it is that Stewart just LOST it and had to check up so there was nothing more that Kurt could have done Except turn left which would have put him on the Apron and we would have had the BIG ONE. Stewart knew that it wasn't Kurts fault and like he said, I just Lost it. I commend both of them for for not going off on each other, Especially Smoke LOL. As for what happened at the End, I think Nascar made the right call to not throw the Caution. Even IF Nascar had thrown the Caution the Safety Crew could not get to Boyers car because of Traffic running 150mph. IMO there is no way that EVERY car could have gotten slowed down by the time Harvick/Martin crossed the Start/Finish line so why even throw it? Of course I am talking about the Safety side of it and of course if they would have thrown the Caution Martin Probably would have won. The thing that gets me is that Martin isn't as MAD as a few people I have seen on other sites and He said all he wanted was a chance and that's what he got. Congrats to Harvick and the whole #29 Shell Team.
