Saw it a loooong time ago when it first came out...it was and still is an awesome flick...

Here's a little about it:

Akira (1988)

Akira was the first major animated film from Japan to land of North American shores and kicked off the recent Anime/Manga craze of the past few years. While not a smashing success initially, it has gained a huge cult following in the years since it's video release. It's not hard to see why. The film contains moments of brilliance and is undoubtedly one of the best Anime films ever produced.

Basic Plot:

Kaneda is a bike gang leader whose close friend Tetsuo gets involved in a government secret project known as Akira. On his way to save Tetsuo, Kaneda runs into a group of anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader. The confrontation sparks off Tetsuo's supernatural power leading to bloody death, a coup attempt and the final battle in Tokyo Olympiad where Akira's secrets were buried 30 years ago.

Hope that helps ya out... Sorry for the delay, but i just noticed your post and saw that you hadn't had any answers yet.... Cheesy
