It's been mentioned several times lately that when Dale, Jr. is wrecked out of a race that his fans simply stop watching the race.  It can be the same for other fans of other drivers, but I was wondering what the average Frontstretch reader does if their favorite driver is punted.  Do you keep on watching and root for someone else or do you say the heck with it and go do something else?

Call me crazy, but I wait UNTIL my favorite driver is knocked out BEFORE I start watching the race.
Then again, I might not be the "average" Frontstretch reader.  Tongue Roll Eyes Wink Grin

What 2H said. Seems like while "my driver" is in the race I spend most of my attention on him. Once he's out, or tons of laps down, I can watch the rest lol.

LOL I do the same thing. And it is worse when I am at the track. There my eyes are glued on that number 20 car which is why I almost always miss the wrecks when they happen because I'm only watching the 20 car. If he wrecks out of the race I still watch the race but it just isen't the same anymore. I was listening to Sirius Speedway the other day and this one guy called in and said he was at the Daytona 500 and watched the first 153 laps or whatever lap it was till Smoke wreck. They asked him why he only watched till that lap and he said because after Tony wrecked which was his fav driver he left. Now that is something I would never do. I pay good money for my seats. There is no way in heck I would live even if Smoke wrecks out which happend in Dover last year.

I keep on watching or listening to the race if possible, if only to see how bad I am going to do in my racing leagues Grin

If I am able (like not having to work or do errands I didnt' get done before the race), I watch every last minute of the race.  As most of you know (simply by my name), I'm a Kevin Harvick fan, but there are very few drivers I don't like.  I also cheer for Dale Jarrett, Tony Raines (his sponsor is the company where I've worked for almost 17 years), Michael Waltrip, Mark Martin....well I could go on and on.  I like the racing.

Does the average FS reader beleive such nonsense?
In the last two races JR DNF'd.....on neither occassion did 50% of the people in the stands get up and leave.

LOL, even if it is a boring race....I'm staying till the end...even if they are a gift from my boss, those tickets are too doggone expensive not to get the most out of it.

I beg to differ HB, when he wrecks at the races I've been to, suddenly there is a LOT more elbow room. MUCH more.

In the early days if my favorite driver fell out, yes I would stop watching. But that was like 10 years ago. I've grown up a little bit since then. Not much though.

Aww, hell, I'm a Kenny Wallace fan...I'd be missing an awful lot of racing!

Seriously, I do watch the whole race, becasue you never know what can happen-and even if someone I like drops out early, I still like to see who wins and how the points end up.  So I watch!

At the track, it's harder.  I usually have the 48 team on the scanner, so it's hard not to watch Jimmie a lot of the time.  I also like to watch the other fans, so I'm easily distractable.

I'll watch all the way through for the most part.

I think getting up and leaving your seat and turning off the tv are two different things.  No way would I leave a seat I paid that kind of money for.  But if I was really disgusted about the race and didn't have another reason to watch (ie a column) then I would turn it off and go do something else.  So in that regard I do see where the comment about Jr fans tuning out comes in.  Not saying ALL Jr. fans would, but I can understand their thinking.

I'll watch on TV for the most part, maybe a little more channel surfing and turning the radio feed on.

In person, in the seat for the whole race.  Now how I will watch Bristol when Mark Martin isn't racing , but the "COT" arrives, i am not sure how i will spend that race.

I pull for a number of drivers and usually keep watching.  I fact, I may be the only one out there, but I like to see the crews scramble to rebuild a wrecked race car or slap in a new transmission so the driver can go out and grub for "valuable Winston Cup points."  In some races, a driver that has trouble early can climb from 43rd up into the low 30s.  That can be big at the end of the year.

What causes me to turn off the TV in disgust is when NA$CAR pulls one of their bone-head stunts.  If I want to see rasslin', I'll watch rasslin'.
