Piquet, Jr. Wins K&N East Opener

Amy Henderson · Saturday March 17, 2012

Nelson Piquet, Jr. held off Ryan Blaney to win the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season opener at Bristol on Saturday. Piquet started on the pole and led early, but didn’t really show his hand until the late laps, when he powered by Corey Lajoie on a late restart and never looked back. It was the series debut at Bristol, and the drivers didn’t disappoint the fans in attendance. The race was slowed six times by caution periods, but after a red flag with just four laps to go, the drivers put on a show with an exciting finish. Ryan Gifford, Andrew Smith, and Derek Ramstrom rounded out the top 5. Piquet also comes away with the points lead.
