Colin Braun Stays Busy During Truck Series Break

CONCORD, N.C. — While the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has the next three weekends off, rookie driver Colin Braun won’t be sitting around his house bored. During that three-week span, Braun will be in Texas, Arizona, Kansas, Iowa and Mexico.

Braun is using his first weekend off to spend some time at his
family’s home in Ovalo, Texas. Located roughly 20 miles from Abilene, Ovalo’s population is about 200 people. Braun enjoys shooting trap and riding four wheelers on his family’s property.

“We have several acres of land at my family’s house in Texas
so it’s great for having fun outside,” Braun said. “We even
bought one of the professional trap machines so we could shoot at home. My neighbors in Cornelius, N.C., wouldn’t care for that if I tried it there.”

The following weekend Braun is off to Tempe, Az., to cheer for his
uncle who will be competing in an Ironman competition. The Ford Ironman race includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run.

“I’ve always wanted to see my uncle compete in one of these
triathlons,” Braun said. “After spending a week in Tempe in
February training at a facility with other professional athletes, I have a whole new respect for the work and dedication that goes into something like this. I’ve got to see this for myself and root for my uncle along the way.”

Returning from Arizona on April 14th, Braun heads back to the
airport on the 15th to fly to Kansas for a media event for Kansas
Speedway. Then two days later he’s off to Mexico City where he will drive in his third-career Nationwide Series race.

“I’ll be driving the No. 16 3M Ford in Mexico for my second
Nationwide race of the season,” said Braun. “I’ve raced there
before in the Grand Am cars, so I am really looking forward to going back. It will be the first time this year that we’re going to a track where I probably have more experience than some of the other Nationwide drivers.”

With a day of rest after returning from Mexico, Braun is scheduled
to test with some of his Roush Fenway Sprint Cup teammates in Iowa for two days. Then he heads back to the Midwest the very next day to get back in his No. 6 Con-way Freight Ford F-150 at Kansas Speedway.

“I don’t get bored very often because I can always find something to do,” Braun said. “I’d love to be racing my Con-way Freight F-150 every weekend, but if I can’t do that I won’t just be sitting around the house. I’m going to Texas, Arizona and Mexico during the break, with a few tests thrown in there too. The Iowa test is just a way for me to get some extra seat time in a stock car. The more experience I get, the better. I’m only 19 years old, so I’ll save the relaxing vacations on a beach for later in life.”
