Bill Davis Racing Event Preview
Race/Date: Built Ford Tough 225 – July 19, 2008
Location: Kentucky Speedway – Sparta, Ky.
NOTES:
This week’s race truck for the event at Kentucky Speedway is Chassis No. 5-118. This is the same truck Mike Skinner drove to a seventh-place finish two weeks ago at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park.
Reigning Champion… The No. 5 Toyota Tundra team won the 2007 event at Kentucky Speedway. The Bill Davis Racing team led 135 of 150 laps en route to its fourth victory of the season.
Starting up Front… The 1995 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion holds the series record for pole positions (45). In 2008, the series veteran has an average starting spot of 6.5. Since May 1, Skinner has accumulated two poles and has started outside the front row twice.
Calling the shots… Interim crew chief Joe Lax will again sit atop the pit box this week. Lax most recently guided rookie Michael Annett to two wins and four top-10 finishes in five ARCA RE/MAX Series starts.
Mr. Consistency… Skinner and the No. 5 Toyota Tundra team have posted more top-10 finishes in 2008 (10) than any other team in the Craftsman Truck Series garage.
Test, Test, Test… Johnny Benson and the No. 5 Toyota Tundra team tested at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in preparation for this weekend’s race. The team spent both Wednesday and Thursday at the “Track Too Tough to Tame.”
Listen and watch … The Built Ford Tough 225 is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. EST Saturday, July 19. It will broadcast on SPEED (TV), MRN (radio) and Sirius Satellite Radio (Ch. 128).
Bill Davis Racing Quotes:
Mike Skinner on Racing at the Kentucky Speedway:
“I really like Kentucky. The fans are great, and unlike going to a NASCAR Sprint Cup track where we race on Friday or Saturday, we are the main attraction. They sell the place out every time we come, and you can feel the electricity from all the fans.
“We had a great truck there last year and pretty much dominated the race. I am confident we are taking a truck that will be as good as last year. The No. 5 team is working really hard in the shop preparing these trucks, and it is certainly starting to pay off on the track. We just need to keep getting better each week, and the wins will come. We are still in the hunt to be a contender for the championship, but we need to continue to do our jobs.”
