Ballew has Busch Back in the Bluegrass State
Wednesday July 16, 2008
Sparta, KY (July 14, 2008)- Kyle Busch will be back behind the wheel of the No. 51 Miccosukee Resort Billy Ballew Motorsports Toyota Tundra for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at the Kentucky Speedway Saturday, July 19, 2008. Busch was last behind the wheel for Ballew in June at the Michigan International Speedway where he posted a seventh-place finish.
Busch, the young driving phenom will be making his first start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at the 1.5-mile intermediate track for the 150 Lap /225 Mile race. He has three starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at the Kentucky Speedway scoring one win in 2004. Busch’s first start at the Kentucky Speedway in an ARCA RE/MAX Series car resulted in victory in 2004.
“I’ve never raced a truck at Kentucky,” says Busch. “Kentucky is one of my favorite places. It’s always a lot of fun. I’ve raced Nationwide cars and won there, and I’ve won in the ARCA car there. Hopefully, our Cup test there last week helped me get a better sense and feel for the place and what I can learn there for the truck. I’m kind of itching to get back into the Truck Series.”
Billy Ballew Motorsports has fielded an entry in all eight previous NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races at the Sparta, Kentucky race track, with Bill Lester posting the team’s best finish of eighth in 2007.
Busch has been on a roll in everything he drives in 2008 and has won seven of 19 Sprint Cup races, five of 19 Nationwide races and two of eight Craftsman Truck races. Busch has finished in the top five in more than half of those races. (26 times for 56.5 percent)
Busch won’t be commuting to one of the other premier NASCAR touring series races this weekend but instead he will commute to get behind the wheel of a different kind of race car. This week Busch will race in the No. 51 NOS Energy Drink Super Late Model at Slinger Speedway in Wisconsin, Tuesday July 15, then July 19th at the Kentucky Speedway in the Miccosukee Resort Toyota Tundra. If that didn’t sound like enough- he, Richie Wauters and some of the No. 51 NCTS team will fly off to the Iowa Speedway for another Super Late Model race Sunday, July 20, 2008.
“It’s not exhausting,” says Busch, about participating in several races during the weekend. “I am a racer and I enjoy doing it. We have a lot of fun in the Late Models and having the weekend off in the Cup Series just gives us an opportunity to go to a couple local tracks and have some fun.
“I want to keep Billy up front and no one else can do it. I think it’s cool that as long as he’s been in the sport, he’s finally got a chance to win a championship and I want to help him keep that alive. He’s been around so long and he’s never had a full-time driver capable of winning him a championship. I’d like to be the one to do it for him.”
Expanded live coverage of the Ford Tough 225 on SPEED begins with qualifying Saturday, July 19th at 3:30pm ET with pre race coverage beginning at 6pm ET. Radio coverage on Sirius Satellite and MRN Radio begins at 6:45pm ET. The green flag is slated to fly at 7:00pm ET.
