NASCAR Truck Series Race 17 of 25 — Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway

Hornaday Searching for First Gateway Win:
Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway (GIR) is one of only eight tracks on the NASCAR Truck Series schedule that Ron Hornaday has not scored a victory. He will be looking to change that stat this week when the Truck Series takes to the 1.25-mile track for the Camping World 200 presented by Honda Power Equipment. In five previous starts at GIR, Hornaday has recorded two top-five and two top-10 finishes and led 114 laps. His career-best finish at GIR is second, which he accomplished twice (1998 and 2007). Hornaday started from the second position and led 94 of the 160 laps in last year’s race.

Gateway A Home-State Track for Crew Chief Ren:
Rick Ren, crew chief for the Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Silverado team, hopes to make this week’s trip to Gateway International Raceway a happy homecoming. Ren is a native of Danville, Illinois, approximately 211 miles northeast of Madison, Illinois, where the race track is located.

From The Driver’s Seat – Quotes From Ron Hornaday:
On racing at Gateway: “I like racing at Gateway. I haven’t always had the best luck there, but hopefully that will change this week. Gateway is very different from other tracks we race on because of the way the corners are. Turns one and two are tight and banked and three and four are wide and flat. We had a good day at Gateway last year; we started and finished second and led the most laps. We need to do the same thing this year, but finish one position better than last year.”

Atop The Pit Box – Quotes From Rick Ren:
On racing at Gateway: “Racing at Gateway is like racing at two different tracks at the same time. The key to getting around Gateway is being able to brake in turn one, hit the gas in turn three and not hit the fence in turn four. We are running a brand new truck at Gateway, but we know how it needs to be set up in order to get a good run out of it.”

Camping World to Sponsor GIR NASCAR Truck Series Race:
Gateway International Raceway has announced that Camping World has entered into a multi-year agreement with the facility that includes title sponsorship of this year’s NASCAR Truck Series race, the Camping World 200 presented by Honda Power Equipment. Camping World is a sponsor at several levels in NASCAR, including the NASCAR Camping World East and West Series, as well as the title sponsor of several races at different tracks across the country and several drivers, including the defending NCTS champion and Kevin Harvick Inc. driver, Ron Hornaday.

Chassis No. 027 to Debut at Gateway:
When Ron Hornaday takes the green flag on Saturday at Gateway International Raceway, he will do so from behind the wheel of a brand new race truck. Chassis No. 027 will be making its debut in the Camping World 200 presented by Honda Power Equipment.

Previous race recap:
Ron Hornaday and the Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Silverado team were looking at a possible top-five finish and a gain in the NASCAR Truck Series point standings on Wednesday night, August 20, at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in the O’Reilly 200 presented by Camping World RV Sales before a late-race accident relegated the team to a 24th-place finish. Hornaday got caught up in an accident on lap 179 while running in the fifth position and was forced to take his truck behind the wall for repairs. However, he returned to the track on lap 196 to finish the race and extend his streak of races without a DNF (Did Not Finish) to 50.
