Gale’s Night Cut Short with Lap-Two Accident in Texas
Fort Worth, Texas (November 3, 2008) —- Cale Gale and the No. 2 American Commercial Lines (ACL) Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Chevrolet team began the Chevy Silverado 350 K at Texas Motor Speedway from the second starting position, only to be involved in a five-truck crash on lap two that relegated the team to a 30th-place finish.
“I’m not really sure what happened,” said Gale after the incident. “Kevin and DeLana gave me this great opportunity to jump in the No. 2 American Commercial Lines Chevrolet this weekend. We had been fast ever since we unloaded this truck. For some reason [Travis] Kvapil decided to take it three-wide into that corner and [Rick] Crawford did too. There just wasn’t enough room. I just hate it for all these guys we had a really fast truck. I wish we would have had time to show them what we could do.”
Driving the same truck Ryan Newman had taken to victory lane the week previous, Gale narrowly missed the pole by one-one thousandth of a second. Gale planned to settle into a comfortable running position early by moving to the inside from the high lane on the first lap, but the competition quickly pinned Gale three-wide. Gale became loose as another truck dove to the inside of his No. 2 Chevrolet. Trying to catch the truck Gale drifted back to the high side only to hit Rick Crawford in the rear quarter panel. Gale then made heavy impact with the outside retaining wall.
The team took the No. 2 ACL Chevrolet to the garage area to assess the wreckage, but the damage was too great to attempt to return to competition. Gale finished the event in the 30th position. The No. 2 Chevrolet now heads to Phoenix where KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick will take the helm for the second time in 2008.
