Braun on racing at Phoenix International Raceway:
“Phoenix has a pretty unique shape, and being such a flat track that always poses more of a challenge to get the set-up just right than on a more banked track. Mike Beam and the guys have great notes to go off from the past years so that is always a big help. We were up in the top 10 early in the race last year, but wrecked about halfway through the race. I got pinched down on the apron and just chased the truck up the race track and eventually lost it coming off the corner and that was that. Hopefully this will be a better weekend for the Con-way Freight team to keep us in the top five in points.”
Crew chief Mike Beam on racing at Phoenix International Raceway:
“Phoenix was a challenging track for Colin last year, but he has improved everywhere we have gone this season so I expect him to run better at Phoenix. We’re taking the same truck we raced at Memphis this summer which was a top-10 truck. We’ve made some gains on our flat-track program this year so hopefully that will pay off at Phoenix this weekend. We are still fighting to stay in the top 10 in points so we need to run every lap and get a solid finish.”
FAST FACTS:
-Braun will be racing chassis RK-54 at Phoenix. This is the same truck that he got a top-10 finish with at Memphis in June.
-Braun is currently fifth in the points with one win, eight top fives and 13 top 10-finishes. He also has four poles which ties Ron Hornaday for the most this season.
-Although fifth in points, Braun ranks in the top four in almost every key statistical category. He has a driver rating of 96.7 (fourth-best), an average running position of 8.9 (fourth-best) and fourth of drivers in laps in the top 15 with a percentage of 87.2 (3246 laps).
