FONTAINE AND TEAM PREPARE FOR THEIR FIRST NCWTS RACE OF THE SEASON AT ATLANTA
Tuesday March 2, 2010
Chris Fontaine and the CFI race team are preparing for their first race of the 2010 NCWTS season at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 6.
Fontaine will be driving the #84 Glenden Enterprises Chevy Silverado in his first ever race at the track.
Glenden Enterprises is the supporter of the #84 at this time, and the team is seeking more sponsorship so they can run more races.
The team currently plans to race at Atlanta , Nashville , Dover , Michigan , Kentucky and Homestead . The team plans to add ORP, the fall Nashville race, Darlington, Chicagoland, Martinsville and Talladega as funds become available.
"The lack of sponsorship is holding us back from running more races than we are, Fontaine said.
With the limited number of races, eight of 25, they were able to run in the 2009 season, the team still finished the year 33rd in points.
Fontaine also got a new NCWTS career high finish of 13th at Gateway International Raceway.
He finished all but one of the eight races, and averaged a 19th place finish.
On what he and the team hope to achieve this year, Fontaine said, "The points don't really matter because we are not running all the races. What we want to do is try and get our first top ten finish, and from there a top five. Just to be able to run more competitively and stay on the lead lap in itself is going to be a tough task. There are a lot of new teams out there that are running part-time schedules, and they are pretty strong teams, so our number one goal will be to make the race with enough speed to get in the top ten and get some TV coverage."
"That will be our main goal, and learn as much as we can to get better and run in the top ten every time, and then try for top fives," he said.
The Atlanta 200 will be broadcast live on the SPEED channel beginning at 1:30 PM ET Saturday, March 6.
