Ricky Carmichael Chicagoland Race Preview

Friday August 27, 2010

PREVIEW: RICKY CARMICHAEL (NO. 4 MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET)

VENUE:  CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY (1.5-MILE OVAL)

CIRCUIT: NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES (RACE 17 of 25)

EVENT: ENJOYILLINOIS.COM 225 (150 LAPS, 225 MILES)

DATE: AUGUST 27, 2010

CARMICHAEL AT CHICAGOLAND: Ricky Carmichael will be returning to familiar territory at Chicagoland Speedway.  The 15-time AMA Champion has made one start at the 1.5-mile oval in 2009 where he started in the 13th-poisition and finished in 18th.

CARMICHAEL ON TRUCKS: Carmichael’s last race came at Bristol Motor Speedway, where he finished in the 19th-position after his Monster Energy Chevrolet was caught up in another competitor’s wreck.  So far this season, Carmichael has scored one top-five and three top-10 finishes.

CARMICHAEL ON COMPETING AT CHICAGOLAND:  “After the last two weeks of going to tracks for the first time, I’m really looking forward to going back to Chicago.  I like 1.5-mile tracks a lot for the speed that you can carry there.  The short tracks have been fun, but I’ve had a bad run of luck being caught up in other people’s messes so I’m ready to get back to a place that I’m familiar there and feel like I can run well.”

BEHIND THE WHEEL: Crew chief Doug Randolph has chosen chassis No.13 for Carmichael to pilot at Chicagoland Speedway. This is a brand new Leavitt chassis for Turner Motorsports and the Monster Energy team.

CREW CHIEF’S KEYS TO SUCCESS:  “Chicago is very similar in set-up to other 1.5-mile ovals that we see.  Obviously speed is important, but being correct on fuel mileage calculations is really key at this type of track.  Ricky’s been there before both to test and race, so I think we’ll be able to see that in his practice sessions and during the race.”

MEET THE DRIVER:  Fans can meet Ricky Carmichael at Chicagoland Speedway during the at-track autograph session on Friday, August 27 from 1 – 2 pm.
