Back where he belongs: Though he maintained a busy schedule during the off season, Justin Lofton is ready for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season to begin. Lofton, who celebrated his 26th birthday February 18th, has been anxious to get back behind the wheel of his No. 6 College Complete Chevrolet Silverado. In order to pass the break in competition over the last few months, Lofton hosted the Justin Lofton Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament, and raised over $40,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Imperial Valley in his native California. He also got the itch to race in the desert, and decided to dabble in a few Best in the Desert (BITD) Racing Association off-road events. He wheeled the No. 77 class 1500 unlimited buggy in two races, and walked away with the Henderson 250 event win after dominating the class from time trials through the finish. He earned the race win with over a 13-minute lead over the competition.
Same team, same sponsor, new look: Lofton returns to NCWTS competition for the third straight year in 2012. His return to the series is simultaneous with his return to Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) and sponsor College Complete (http://www,collegecomplete.com). In 2009 Lofton earned the ARCA Racing Series championship while driving for ESR. In July of 2011, Lofton and Sharp decided to reunite in truck competition, and after switching manufacturers to Chevrolet, the team picked up two top-10s through the end of the year. They also nabbed a season's best starting position of fifth in Kentucky, and ended the season 16th in the owner point standings, a gain of seven positions from where the team was when Lofton took over behind the wheel. Justin Lofton at Daytona: When he takes the green flag this Friday for the NextEra Energy Resources 250, Lofton will be making his third career truck start at the famed 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway. In his previous two starts, he has a best starting spot of 17th and best finish in 18th. In 2009, Lofton started on the pole for the ARCA Racing Series event and finished an impressive third.
Truck Information: This weekend, Lofton will pilot chassis number 55 around the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway. The last time the truck was raced was last October at Talladega Superspeedway, where it sat on the outside pole.
Justin Lofton on Daytona: "I am really excited about this year. My crew chief Dan (Bormann) put together a great team. This is going to be a fun year. We have good group with a lot of experience. I feel like I have that now at Daytona too, so it's a good combination. We just need a little luck out there, because these superspeedways can get tricky. They're a lot of fun though, and I am looking forward to starting the season strong." |
