Bristol Bumper Cars-Fantasy Insight

Dennis Michelsen · Thursday March 31, 2005

Why do 170,000 fans renew their season tickets every year? If you have to think for more than 10 seconds to come up with an answer to that question then obviously you have never been to Bristol! Imagine how crazy this place would be if they ground the track to allow for better side-by-side racing? Bruton Smith would build a triple deck and increase capacity to 300,000 if they did that! But until they make that change get ready for some old fashioned slamming and bamming! If you want to get the feel for what it is like to race at Bristol head down to the bumper cars at the local fair this summer. At Bristol they call it “Racin’ the way it oughta be.” I just call it the best show around! Gentlemen start your bashing!

Handicapping the Race

Top Pick (17th Last Week; 1 for 4 for Season)
Greg Biffle- At the top of his game right now and has the aggressive style needed to win here.

Strong Picks (5th, 14th, and 32nd Last Week; 7 for 12 for Season)
Jamie McMurray- The best average finish of any active driver at Bristol.

Kurt Busch- Winner of 4 of the last six races here.

Ryan Newman- Qualifying is king at Bristol with 71% of the winners coming from the top six qualifiers and no one is faster on Fridays that Rocket Man.

Hunch Bet (35th Last Week; 2 for 4 for Season)
Mark Martin- Has struggled here of late on the harder tires. Return to softer compound could return Mr. Consistency to the front of the pack.

Longshot Bet (37th Last Week; 0 for 4 for Season)
Sterling Marlin- Tested here in chilly conditions in March and is a good bet at 30-1 in front of the home state fans.
