Restrictor plate racing is no fun for most drivers! Racing in close quarters lap after lap tries the patience of even the best drivers in the world. Now give these guys a dinky plate that chokes off the motor more than it has to and you have the recipe for the dreaded “Big One.” Maybe it will be an ill-conceived move to take the lead. Perhaps a block or maybe a tire will go down, but more often than not once the smoke clears 10-20 of the finest stock cars will be trashed! Maybe this is why the fans tune in but I would rather see real racing myself. I have been following NASCAR long enough to remember the good old days of slingshot passes for the lead! The All American Race used to be a race instead of an event. You will only need the edge of your seat to watch the All American Wreck…I mean race on Sunday.
Still need that Race Game fix fulfilled?
Back my popular demand is the always-challenging “Last One Standing.” NASCAR handicapping meets “Survivor” in this fan favorite that returns for another fun season. This year the entry page moves over to a new home at StockCarPitPass.com. Just like the NASCAR champ the champion of “Last One Standing” will win a jacket from www.hotjackets.com! We kick off the insanity with the Daytona 500 this week.
A brand new game has arrived for the 2006 season. “Beat the Hawk” is a simple game with the potential for a big payoff! This weekly game is sort of like pari-mutuel wagering on NASCAR. Each weekly $5 entry has a chance to win the pool of money bet that week if you can just “Beat the Hawk!” Check out the rules and get in the game over at

Handicapping the Race
The Bow Tie brigade was dominant in pre-season testing as usual. The new Ford Fusion did a good job in traffic with the Dodge Charger lagging a bit behind. This comes as no surprise so it is hard to go against the strong Chevy contingent. DEI was missing at the top of the speed charts but come race day I think they will find that speed that is always expected from them.
Win-Mark Martin
Maybe the old sentimentalist in me wants this enough to pick it!
Place-Tony Stewart
Still the king of the hill until someone knocks him off.
Show-Dale Earnhardt Jr
Another guy who wants to bounce back from a lousy season.
Top Rookie-Clint Bowyer
RCR showed a return to their restrictor plate strength of the past!
Last Place-Kevin LePage
I like his chances of making the field but think he will come up short of 500 miles on Sunday.
