Is This Place Spelled DEIGA?-Fantasy Insight

Dennis Michelsen · Wednesday April 27, 2005

Talladega Superspeedway
Even before the restrictor plates got slapped on the motors here this was a place that loved upset winners. Several drivers have earned their first or only victories at Talladega. But one guy dominated here like no one ever has before, or perhaps maybe ever. Dale Earnhardt won an amazing ten times in 44 starts. That’s a batting average of about 23%! No one will ever forget the Intimidator’s last win here when he charged from 17th to first in the closing laps. Earnhardt’s success here didn’t end with his death. The race team he developed that bears his name has been just as strong as he once was at NASCAR’s biggest track. Dale Earnhardt Jr has an even better batting average in his ten races here, finishing his day in Victory Lane half of those races! Add to that total a win by Michael Waltrip and several Busch wins and you have an amazing record unequaled by any other team at any other track. NASCAR constantly tweaks the rules here and at the end of the day DEI is up front. This week I am going to go out on a limb and pick against Junior with another Chevy team, Kevin Harvick’s. But don’t you dare leave the DEI cars off your list of contenders here at TallaDEIga!

Week 8 of Last One Standing is in the books!

Strong Picks (1st, 14th, 41st Last Week; 11 for 24 for Season, Expect Top 10)
Dale Earnhardt Jr- No (25 point word deleted) his record is almost as impressive as his Daddy’s at Dega (7/2 Odds)

Hunch Bet (19th Last Week; 3 for 8 for Season, Expect Top 10)
Elliot Sadler- This place owes him one and the Yates/Roush motors could be the strongest on plate tracks too (25-1 Odds)

Longshot (3rd Last Week; 3 for 8 for Season, Expect Top 15)
Bobby Labonte- He has a win here and is overdue in the luck department (40-1 Odds)
