Sweet Home Chicago- Making the Grade Cup

Dennis Michelsen · Monday July 11, 2005

Pace Laps

This time Bobby Labonte’s sponsor didn’t go to great lengths to explain that Bobby wasn’t on this medication!

Ryan Sandberg was right about the World Series thing in Chicago, but perhaps it will be on the wrong side of town!

Anyone else sick of those NBC "Toliet Seat" graphics they use around the driver’s picture or is it just me?

Race Grade A-

Were they really racing at Chicagoland Speedway? Now that is some good racing!

F for Goodyear

You can blame it on the teams all you want but this has been a Badyear for the folks at Goodyear! Hey guys low 90s in Chicago is not really that abnormally hot so you can’t blame the weather!

D for Jeff Gordon and the Dupont Team

The crash wasn’t his fault but the lousy day was his and his team’s fault! Then again maybe Jeff Gordon is just getting a taste of the Cub’s curse. He has finished worse than 30th almost every week since he called their ballpark "Wrigley Stadium."

C for David Stremme

Your first race in Nextel Cup was a success! Remember we don’t grade on a curve around here so be very happy with a "C" because you earned it! It should be a great rookie of the year battle in 2006!

 B for Matt Kenseth

This is a race for the "Woulda, coulda, shoulda" department! Matt had the best car on Sunday, but in NASCAR sometimes it takes more than the best car to win! Kenseth and his team did everything right, but came up one position short! Now this is the kind of form they showed in their championship hunt two years ago!

A for Dale Earnhardt Jr

It took the two-tire pit strategy to get him up front but Junior drove the wheels off that car in the final laps. This much needed win should do alot for his and his team’s confidence for the rest of the year! Dale also carefully navigated his way through an emotional Victory Lane interview without saying anything naughty!

Extra Credit for Tony Stewart

After wrecking hard in practice Smoke almost pulled off the three-peat on Sunday! This team is shouting out loud and clear that someone other than Roush or Hendrick could still win the title!
