Offseason Content Schedule! 2011 Driver Reviews

We’ve had a few races since the last time I was here so I’ll try to get you all caught up on what we’ve been up to this season. For Martinsville, it was my first time going there, so I’d never seen that racetrack before. We didn’t really have a good truck all weekend long. We struggled quite a bit but we salvaged an 11th place finish out of it. After all the rain and the thunderstorms we had there, we finally raced on Monday. We finally got it in and finished 11th so we were pretty happy with our finish because of how crazy of a weekend we had. I didn’t think we were good enough to finish 11th so to come out that well was pretty good and I was pretty proud of the guys for that.

James Buescher Driver Diary: Racing, Racing, and More Racing!
Tom Bowles' popular Wednesday column returns with a look at what to focus on from this offseason.

I was pretty excited at the beginning of the week at Daytona. We started out pretty good in practice. We didn’t have a lot of speed on the speed chart, but the truck was handling really well. We figured if it would handle good on old tires, we’d be good for the race. We also figured when we got around the other trucks, we’d be a lot faster because of the draft. We mostly focused on getting the balance of the truck a lot better. I think we did that.

We qualified okay and the truck was really good in the race. It drove right up to the front. I passed Kyle Busch for the lead one time and then the caution came out, which wasn’t all bad because we were about to have to do green flag pit stops in the next few laps.

James Buescher Driver Diary: NASCAR's Teenage Talent Off To A Decent Start

This year Driver Diary contributor Rick Crawford will take on the role of mentor to his new teammate, 18-year-old James Buescher (pronounced Busher) who takes over the wheel of the No. 10 MaxxForce Diesel by International Ford F-150. Rick thought it might be interesting for his fans to get a different perspective and hear about the Camping World Truck Series from the point of view of his young protege for 2009. We welcome James as our new Drive Diary contributor and we hope our readers enjoy getting to know this very talented newcomer.

I guess the best way to start this off is to tell you a little bit about myself and my background and how I got here. I started when I was 12 years old, racing Bandolero cars in Texas at Lil’ Texas Motor Speedway. I started out doing it for fun. I don’t have any racing background in my family. We got a Bandolero and started going to the race track and racing it.
