BSNews! DEI Announces New Stable of Drivers For 2009 ... And Other Bits From The Newsroom Floor
Voices From the Heartland · Jeff Meyer · Thursday July 3, 2008
(BSNews, Mooresville, NC) – In an effort to bring an Earnhardt back into the driver’s seat, it was announced today that 19-year-old Taylor Earnhardt will be racing full-time for DEI in the Cup series in 2009. Taylor is the daughter of the late Dale Earnhardt and Teresa Houston Earnhardt, who’s held the reigns at DEI since her husband’s death in 2001.
Taylor is no stranger to racing and is seen to be a perfect fit in the DEI organization, especially when the company faces certain sponsorship and driver woes in the near future. And even though her racing experience is limited to racing horses and other equestrian events, there seems to be no concern in the head office about the promotion.
“Taylor is an exceptional competitor and already has a world championship under her belt,” said proud mother Teresa. “She is an Earnhardt, and when it comes to racing, horsepower is horsepower. Just the fact that she is an Earnhardt will make her extremely marketable.”

Jeffrey Earnhardt addresses the media after learning of his half-aunt’s promotion within DEI.
Joining Taylor at DEI for the 2009 Cup lineup is her half-nephew, Jeffrey Earnhardt. Jeffrey is the son of Taylor’s half-brother, Kerry Earnhardt, and the step-grandson of DEI owner and reigning step-mother of Kerry and Junior, Teresa.
“I’m just happy to be driving for someone, even if it is for my step-gramma and with my half-aunt,” said an elated Jeffrey Earnhardt. “I just wanted to get my foot in the door somewhere. Someday, I hope to own my own team.”
NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. didn’t seem too concerned when told who he would be driving against in 2009 from the DEI stable.
“Well, it definitely is a step up for my half-sister and my half-brother’s boy….what would that make him to me…I don’t know. Even I have trouble keeping all the family straight,” said a puzzled-looking Junior. “As for the cars from DEI, I don’t worry about them at all. We all know they aren’t real fast, only half-fast.”
No reports have yet to be heard on what type of contract was worked out between Taylor and her mother or Teresa and her step-grandson…
(BSNews, Memphis, TN) – John Carter, owner of E & M Motorsports, announced today that Johnny Sauter would pilot the No. 08 getFUBAR.com Dodge Charger in both the LifeLock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway and the Allstate 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Most racing insiders agree that Sauter and sponsor getFUBAR are the perfect fit for each other.
“Johnny is exactly the right driver for that car,” said one fellow competitor who wished not to be identified. “Any time Johnny is in a race car that is usually how it ends up… FUBAR!”
(BSNews, Daytona Beach, FL) – BSNews veteran reporter Ima Schitenya has learned that a recent trip to the South American country of Columbia by NASCAR CEO Brian France in March is about to pay off, giving fans at this week’s race in Daytona a possible boost.
In a new promotion, should any one of 13 drivers that make up the “Coke Driver” in NASCAR’s Cup Series win Sunday’s race at Daytona, all fans will have a chance to receive free Coke!
“I know Coke is one of my favorites,” said a runny-nosed France. “I just want to possibly [sniff] share this great product with as many people as I can!”
No word yet on just exactly what role Juan Pablo Montoya, who hosted France during his stay in Columbia, had in setting up the whole Coke promotion, but it has recently been rumored that Brian has, more than once, referred to Juan as “my little friend.”

Message Board Quote of the Week: “I don’t see how Rusty + DEI + COT = competitive on the racetrack in 2009. I do see how Rusty could hook a sponsor, though, which DEI needs more than ever with Paul Menard leaving and taking the Menards money with him.” Scott B on rumors that Rusty Wallace would be making a return to NASCAR behind the wheel of a DEI-owned machine
