Whine all you want, but the simple truth is, both the Car of Tomorrow (CoT) and the Toyota of Tomorrow (ToT) will soon be the NASCAR of Tomorrow (NoT). As time passes by, there is nothing that can be done because that’s what the Big BF (Brian France) wants in the sport’s future.
Personally, I don’t see what all the fuss is about. As it stands now, if you lined up one car from each of the manufacturers currently in the series, took away the paint and the noses, VERY few people could tell you which was which. They are already as generic as can be.
The CoT will be no different than what we have today, so why cry about it? If anything the racing WILL improve, and it definitely features some safety improvements for the drivers. All NASCAR is doing is slightly changing the dimensions of an already generic product. I would wager to say that the old timers of this sport would say they already are racing the Car of Tomorrow compared to the various makes and models of yesteryear.
Think about it for a moment. If the southern moonshiners had found that the best vehicle to ply their trade way back when were school buses, we’d be watching NASBAR every weekend. (National Association for School Bus Auto Racing). School buses, coupled with marketing as it is today, would probably be raking in even more dollars for the France family than NASCAR in its current state. I mean, there is just soooo much more room on a bus for sponsors.
The same is true when it comes to Toyota. This sport was made by guys that took what was at hand and made it fast to suit their purpose. If, way back when, there had been Toyotas handy that fit that bill, we may have been watching them race for many years now.
Toyota is NO threat to this American sport. Going back to what I said earlier, put a plain, no nose "˜Toyota’ next to the Ford, Chevy, and Dodge and I defy you to tell me which is which.
Of course, there is also the argument for the ToT that only "˜American’ cars should be allowed in NASCAR. How American is the German owned Dodge? How many Ford jobs have gone to Mexico? How many Camrys are made in the U.S.? The cars we watch every weekend are already the same. They have nothing in common with "˜stock’ cars in production today. One more is not going to make a difference.
This sport didn’t suffer when Dodge got out for many years, and it won’t suffer when Toyota gets in. The best way to send them packing is to beat the pants off them, every week, all the time.
Wake up people. This already IS the NASCAR of Tomorrow, and they’ve been driving the Car of Tomorrow for years now!
As for me, I’m a Chevy man! Toyota don’t scare me! Run what ya brung, I say. If you "˜brung’ a Toyota, that’s your problem. Just remember, whatever ya brung"¦
Stay off the wall,
Jeff
