For those who wonder, Danica and I haven’t talked really. We’ve just kind of moved on. Now looking back two or three weeks ago, my side of the story is just that we were racing hard and it was a pure product of stock car racing where we both disagreed on how the other person was racing. That’s part of the sport. At the end of the day, there were torn up racecars, and that’s not good because we weren’t racing for the win or top 10s. We don’t need to be doing that. I think she knows that and I know that. I don’t’ think there’s any issue with us. I mean, we haven’t talked. It’s just a matter of racing. I think we’ll race each other clean and competitively from here on out.
I don’t think this will be an issue going forward. I hope not, anyway. I don’t see why it should be. If the two of us are racing for the win or for a top 10 or something in the future, it’ll make for a good rivalry. But right now, both of us are on the same plan. We’re both trying to make ourselves known in the series. We’re trying to earn respect and we don’t need to be dragging each other down with drama and I think we both recognize that. We’re going to both be on our own deal.
I feel like our team has improved. We’ve gotten more consistent. Our crew has gotten better. We weren’t as competitive as we would have liked to have been at Texas, but we still were able to put together a good race and get everything we could out of it. It’s a chance to go to Phoenix and try to make the most of what we’ve got.
I haven’t heard official numbers, but there was a lot of buzz about voting and I’m sure we’ve had record amounts of voters, which is what I’m concerned about…people exercising their right to vote. I haven’t heard either side of the outcome as far as numbers, but I can tweet about it and I thought it was important that people got out and voted. It’s a privilege to be an American and to get to vote for our election and choose our president. There are a lot of people who don’t take much importance to that and they really should because it is a privilege.
I was proud to vote. I got an early vote in Charlotte and I’m anxious for the next four years to see how our country progresses. Both candidates seemed to be pretty serious about what their plans were and they both wanted to make a difference. I’m just hoping the best for Barack Obama and that he’s the leader that he says he is and has the successful plan that he says he has because he’s our man in charge right now whether we like it or not.
It’s going to be an interesting offseason for us. We’re going to be building the 2013 cars. We’re going to be looking forward to next year. We’re going to be getting an engine deal in place and moving forward with Toyota. There’s a lot of work that has to be done in the offseason and hopefully we can build cars that are competitive and that can race in the top 20 next year with the new body style.
For this season to be considered a success, I’d like to see at least another top 20. I would actually like to see two more top 20s, but I think that’s our goal is to go to these races and finish strong. So I think those are our goals in these next few races. Going to Phoenix and Homestead, we’d just like to finish strong. We just want to see two top 20s and we’re bringing the best work that we’ve got and we’re bringing a fresh racecar to Phoenix that we haven’t raced yet this year. We’re hoping that this can kick our last swing at two races and to get some top 20s.
