OK Junior fan, calm down, Dale will have a decent year. Just that once again, he won’t go to the head of the class. At the end of last season, he blamed it on his relatives which they say you can’t pick.
Well you can if they work for you and he said he needed all new crew that he could work with professionally, so it was see you later Uncle and cousin Tonys, go see Mikey for a job.
Now Dale’s newest bestest friend, Pete Rondeau, moves from the 15 team to take over the crew chief duties at the 8 shop. This could be the best thing to happen to Dale’s career since that night nearly 30 years ago that Dale Sr told Brenda “Aww but honey, you know I hate to wear those things.”
Just look at what it did for Mark Martin and last year’s Nextel Cup Champion, Kurt Busch. In 2003 they changed crew chiefs and both teams improved. Maybe that is just what the teams need is new chemistry between them.
Even so, thinking that Junior can win the 2005 championship could be a bit optimistic, so we put Jr in 4th this year. Don’t give up hope though Junior fans, with the Chase format, it’s any of ten drivers so as long as the 8 is in the top ten after 26, he’s got a shot.
